Job summary

Swanson Industries is seeking an Apprentice Fitter & Machinist to join the Lambton team, starting December/January. You’ll learn hands-on with hydraulic cylinder repair, rebuild and maintenance, mentored through the Elevate Apprenticeship Program and supported by a national network.

The role offers exposure to Swanson’s surface technology capabilities, a structured learning path, and opportunities to progress within Questas Group’s national footprint after ticket completion.

Qualifications

• Minimum Year 10 High School Certificate.
• Interest in how machines and mechanical systems work.
• Comfortable with maths and good with your hands.
• Careful and precise — accuracy matters in this trade.
• Clear communicator who enjoys working with people.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside senior fitters and machinists on hydraulic cylinder repair and rebuild.
• Learn precision machining techniques and equipment.
• Assist with inspection and fault-finding on hydraulic components.
• Support reassembly and testing processes to restore components to specification.
• Attend training programs and courses to build your trade knowledge and skills.

About the Opportunity

Swanson Industries has spent more than 70 years solving hydraulic problems for heavy industry - growing into a specialist in cylinder manufacturing, repair, and surface technology trusted across mining, defence, marine, and agriculture.

We're looking for an Apprentice Fitter & Machinist to join our Lambton team, starting December/January. Our Mackay workshop specialises in hydraulic cylinder repair, rebuild, and maintenance for high-load applications used in the mining and industrial equipment that keeps operations across Central Queensland running. You'll be learning the trade hands-on, working through inspection, precision machining, and reassembly on components that can't afford to fail.

You won't be figuring this out on your own. Through our Elevate Apprenticeship Program, you'll have a mentor in your corner, structured learning through the Elevate Academy, and a wider community of apprentices across Questas Group going through the same journey.
