Job summary

The Wickham Boatshed is seeking an Apprentice Chef to join a busy kitchen in Newcastle. The role offers training in basic culinary skills, knife work, ingredients knowledge, and use of commercial equipment.

You will work in a fast-paced team and weekend shifts are expected. You will train under the chef, learning procedures and duties in food preparation and kitchen operations, with emphasis on teamwork and reliability.

Qualifications

• Passion for the food industry and teamwork required.
• Punctual, reliable and flexible to weekend shifts.
• Eligible to work in Australia (citizenship/residency).
• To be eligible for an apprenticeship or traineeship you must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or have full working rights.

Job description

We are looking for an Apprentice Chef to join our busy team.

Our kitchen works at a fast pace and work schedules will include weekends.

You will need to be passionate about food, career driven and a team player.

Training for an apprentice cook covers basic culinary skills, knife skills, knowledge of ingredients, use of commercial equipment and kitchen procedures.

Your main duties include but not limited to:

• Assisting the chef in the preparation and cooking of meals.
• Training to learn procedures and duties in food preparation.
• Working under the supervision of the chef.
• Operating commercial cooking equipment such as mixers, steamers, fryers, ovens and stoves.
• Kitchen cleaning, such as dish washing and equipment cleaning, sanitation.
• Assists in other areas of food preparation and storage.

The ideal candidate will:
