Job summary

Jenny Barbour IT & Project Recruitment is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to own features for a flagship mobile app used by millions of Australians.

You will join a cross-functional squad with Product, UX, QA, Security and other engineering teams, contributing from design through to release.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, building and releasing Android features end to end using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Strong knowledge of Android fundamentals: XML, Activities, Fragments, background work and permissions.
• Experience with Coroutines, structured concurrency and Flow in production Android apps.
• Ability to contribute to architectural decisions and establish engineering standards.
• Proficiency in Android architecture principles across MVVM, MVI, MVP, DI and layered architectures.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and release Android features end to end using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Apply Android fundamentals including XML, Activities, Fragments, background work and permissions.
• Work with Coroutines, structured concurrency and Flow across production Android applications.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, considering trade-offs and standards.
• Apply Android architecture principles across MVVM, MVI, MVP, dependency injection and layered architecture.
• Work within a large, multi-module codebase respecting module boundaries.
• Demonstrate deep knowledge of Jetpack Compose state management and Compose UI testing.
• Maintain high code quality through code reviews, testing, patterns and best practices.
• Modernise legacy Android code and reduce technical debt.
• Participate in solution and design reviews to shape API contracts.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, QA and Security to deliver a strong customer experience.
• Contribute to Gradle tooling, version catalogs and CI/CD configuration.
• Communicate technical decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentor less experienced engineers through pairing and knowledge sharing.

You will work as part of a cross-functional squad alongside Product, UX, QA, Security and other engineering teams, with the opportunity to contribute from solution design through to release.
