North East Air is seeking a skilled Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician or apprentice based in Bilgola Beach, NSW 2107. You will install, maintain and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems for a diverse client base, working across residential, commercial and industrial projects.

The role requires current trade qualifications or apprenticeship completion, a refrigerant handling licence, and 2–3 years of hands-on experience.

Qualifications

• Current trade qualifications or apprenticeship completion in air conditioning and refrigeration.
• Valid refrigerant handling licence or equivalent certification (or ability to obtain).
• Minimum of 2–3 years' practical experience in installation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning and refrigeration.
• Sound knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems and mechanical principles.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and testing tools.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, repair and service air conditioning and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings.
• Diagnose faults and malfunctions in climate control and refrigeration equipment using diagnostic tools and knowledge.
• Perform preventative maintenance checks to ensure systems operate efficiently and safely.
• Conduct system inspections and provide customers with detailed reports and recommendations.
• Test and charge refrigerant systems in accordance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Replace faulty components including compressors, condensers, evaporators and control systems.
• Follow safety protocols and comply with refrigerant handling and environmental regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of work, parts used and hours worked.
• Communicate professionally with clients and provide cost estimates.
• Collaborate with team to complete projects on time and to specification.

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician or apprentice to join our dynamic team at North East Air. This is a full-time position based in Bilgola Beach, NSW 2107. You will play a crucial role in maintaining, installing and repairing air conditioning and refrigeration systems for a wide range of clients. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects, from residential units to commercial installations, whilst utilising your technical expertise and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities

Install, maintain, repair and service air conditioning and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings

Diagnose faults and malfunctions in climate control and refrigeration equipment using diagnostic tools and technical knowledge

Perform preventative maintenance checks to ensure systems operate efficiently and safely

Conduct system inspections and provide customers with detailed reports and recommendations

Test and charge refrigerant systems in accordance with environmental and safety regulations

Replace faulty components, including compressors, condensers, evaporators and control systems

Follow all safety protocols and comply with relevant legislation, including refrigerant handling certifications and environmental regulations

Maintain accurate records of work completed, parts used and hours worked

Communicate professionally with clients, explaining technical issues in accessible terms and providing cost estimates

Collaborate with team members and management to ensure projects are completed on time and to specification

What we're looking for

Current relevant trade qualifications or apprenticeship completion in air conditioning and refrigeration

Valid Refrigerant handling licence or equivalent certification (or ability to obtain)

Minimum of 2-3 years' practical experience in air conditioning and refrigeration installation, maintenance and repair

Sound knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems and mechanical principles

Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and testing tools

Strong understanding of safety protocols and environmental compliance requirements, including refrigerant handling

Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities

Physical fitness and ability to work at heights and in confined spaces where required

Valid driver's licence and reliable transport

Professional communication skills and customer service focus

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred: experience with commercial refrigeration systems or building management systems
