Job summary

Highview Accounting & Financial in Bass Coast seeks an Accountant to join our Wonthaggi office on a full-time basis. You’ll work with sole traders, small businesses and farming clients, enjoying close client relationships in a regional practice backed by the resources of a larger firm.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics, 3 years in Australian public practice, and CA/CPA (or working towards it).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics.
• CA or CPA, or enrolled and actively working towards it.
• 3 years hands-on experience in Australian public practice accounting.
• Sound knowledge of tax matters (Division 7A, GST, FBT).
• Experience using Xero; FYI Elite a bonus with training provided.

• Prepare and review financial statements and tax returns for individuals, partnerships, trusts and companies.
• Support tax planning strategies under guidance of your manager.
• Communicate with clients to respond to queries and provide guidance on accounting matters.

We’re looking for an Accountant to join our Bass Coast team on a full time basis, based in our Wonthaggi office. You’ll work with a variety of clients, including sole traders, small businesses and farming clients, and enjoy the close client relationships of a regional practice, backed by the systems, training and career pathways of a larger firm, all without the daily city commute.

About You

• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics.
• Your CA or CPA, or you’re enrolled and actively working towards it. We’ll support you to get there.
• Have a minimum of 3 years hands-on experience in Australian public practice accounting.
• Sound knowledge of tax matters, including Division 7A, GST and FBT.
• Experience using Xero. Knowledge of FYI Elite is a bonus, but we’ll train you if it’s new to you.
• High level of accuracy & analytical thinking.
• Excellent communication skills and a knack for problem-solving.

About the role

As an Accountant at Highview you will:

• Prepare and review financial statements and tax returns for individuals, partnerships, trusts, and companies, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and deadlines.
• Support the preparation and execution of tax planning strategies and initiatives under the guidance of your manager, helping clients optimise their tax positions.
• Communicate directly with clients to respond to their queries, provide guidance on accounting matters, and foster strong professional relationships.
• Act as a liaison with the ATO and other third parties on behalf of clients as required, ensuring timely and accurate resolution of any outstanding matters.
