Job summary

Serco is seeking an Aboriginal Liaison Officer to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners in custody and through reentry. You will work with prisoners, staff, Elders and community groups to deliver culturally safe, meaningful services and rehabilitation-focused outcomes.

You will help facilitate culturally appropriate interventions and maintain connections with Elders and external partners while advocating for welfare and reintegration needs in a supportive team setting.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a welfare, community services, justice, human services or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or advocating for people with complex needs.
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, communities and contemporary issues.
  • The ability to remain calm, resilient and professional in challenging environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and positive relationships.
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to working as part of a supportive team.

As an Aboriginal Liaison Officer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners throughout their time in custody and their transition back into the community. Working closely with prisoners, staff, Elders, and community organisations, you'll help ensure culturally safe and meaningful support services are delivered. You'll be part of a collaborative team committed to rehabilitation, wellbeing, and positive outcomes for individuals and communities.

As an Aboriginal Liaison Officer in the Offender Development team, you’ll make a positive impact by:

  • Supporting culturally appropriate interventions and wellbeing programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners.
  • Facilitating connections with Elders, community organisations and culturally significant programs.
