Job summary

Yilabara seeks a Barranggirra Mentor to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants in Broken Hill and surrounding regions. The role focuses on building aspirations, improving confidence, and guiding apprentices to successful completion and meaningful post-training employment.

This fixed-term position runs until 30 June 2028, requiring strong stakeholder engagement, case management experience, and a commitment to cultural values and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Aboriginality is a stated requirement for this position.
• Extensive community engagement with Aboriginal communities and organisations.
• Experience managing stakeholder relationships.
• Extensive experience in client-centred case management.
• Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation and rapport-building skills.
• Commitment to values of excellence, best practice and cultural engagement.
• Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check.
• Valid Australian driver's license (minimum P2).

Responsibilities

• Build supportive relationships with Aboriginal apprentices and trainees, supporting completion of training and sustainable employment.
• Co-design individual mentoring plans with participants.
• Establish contact schedules with apprentices/trainees, employers and families when requested.
• Develop partnerships with employers and coordinate support plans between participants and employers.
• Engage with training providers to resolve issues and support training completion.
• Provide post-placement support for participants placed into employment.
