Job summary

NEXTDC is expanding its hyperscale data centre team in West Footscray. We are looking for a trades or technical individual with a mechanical or electrical background to join us as a Data Centre Technician within our facilities team operating on a 24/7 roster.

We provide hands-on training across cooling infrastructure (CRAC units, chillers, HVAC), electrical distribution, cabling, building monitoring systems, and fire protection.

Qualifications

• Engineering background (Mechanical/Electrical) or Trade Certification (desirable).
• Mechanical/HVAC/electrical/building services background (highly regarded).
• Basic data centre & cabling knowledge (desirable).
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong customer service, communications skills, and proactive attitude.
• Australian Citizenship required to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.

Responsibilities

• Assist with vendor management for maintenance of core mechanical and electrical systems.
• Support 24/7 critical operations through monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and timely incident escalation.
• Attend to Remote Hands requests such as Rack Power ups.
• Collaborate with internal teams and customers to deliver seamless operations and support installations.
• Ensure all visitors and contractors adhere to NEXTDC facility rules.
• Undertaking regular manual handling duties as required.

We are currently looking for a Trades or Technical individual, ideally with a mechanical or electrical background, to join us in the role of Data Centre Technician working within our facilities teamoperatingon a 24/7 basis.

Within this role, we will provide full on-the-job training to bring you up to speed on all aspects of data centre facility management and critical infrastructure. This includes hands‑on exposure to mechanical systems such as cooling infrastructure (CRAC units, chillers, HVAC systems), electrical distribution systems (UPS, Generators, and power distribution equipment), cabling infrastructure, building monitoring systems, and fire protection systems.

Candidates with an electrical, mechanical, or related trade background are encouraged to apply. This role offers the opportunity to apply transferable technical skills within a mission‑critical data centre environment.

The successful candidate willbe requiredto work a 4 – 5 – 5 rotating shiftrosterwith day shifts from 7am - 7pm and night shifts from 7pm - 7am.

Key Responsibilities include:

This role is not focused on IT but instead centres on hands‑on facility operations, critical plant uptime. The successful candidate will support a range of mechanical, electrical, and facility systems within a mission‑critical environment.

From time to time, during shifts there may be travel between sites asrequired.
