Job summary

NEXTDC is seeking a Senior Data Centre Technician to join our Sunshine Coast facilities team. You will support the Facility Manager in daily data centre operations, provide high-quality maintenance and customer service, and act as SME for the data centre team.

You’ll lead a team of Data Centre Technicians, participate in an on-call roster, and drive improvements to ensure service availability and efficiency at NEXTDC's Sunshine Coast site.

Qualifications

  • Experience in data centre operations and critical facilities.
  • Knowledge of rack management, IT equipment installation, power and cooling.
  • Experience with structured cabling and quality assurance.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe, secure, and reliable data centre operation, managing WHS, security, and critical systems.
  • Lead and support a team of technicians; participate in on-call roster.
  • Coordinate provisioning requests; ensure work is completed on time and to standard.
  • Manage contractors and resources to meet SLAs and operational demands.
  • Plan cabling infrastructure to support growth and service availability.
  • Act as SME for communications infrastructure and environmental monitoring.
  • Assist with equipment installation, maintenance, and day-to-day activities.
  • Prepare reports and drive continuous improvement in processes and workflows.
  • Provide technical guidance to the wider team and lead training initiatives.

Job Description

We are currently looking for a passionate Senior Data Centre Technician to joinourSunshine Coastfacilities team.


The purpose of this role is to supporttheFacilityManagerwith the day-to-day operations of the data centre by providing high quality & efficient technical maintenance and customer service. This role will also bethe lead in SME for the team of Data Centre Technicians andbe requiredtoparticipatein an on-call roster.
Whatyou'lldo:



  • Ensure the safe, secure, and reliable operation of the data centre by managing WHS, security, and critical facility systems.

  • Perform HV switchingasdirected

  • Coordinate customer provisioning requests, ensuring work is completed accurately, on time, and to a high standard.

  • Manage contractors, workloads, and staffing resources to meet operational demands and SLAs.

  • Plan andmaintaincabling infrastructure capacity to support customer growth and ensure service availability.

  • Act as the facility Subject Matter Expert (SME) for communications infrastructure, including cabling, power monitoring, rack locking, and environmental monitoring.

  • Assist with customer equipment installation, facility maintenance, and day-to-day operational activities.

  • Maintain high standards of facility cleanliness, presentation, and operational readiness.

  • Escalate incidents in line with established procedures and supporttimelyresolution

  • Drive continuous improvement by developing and enhancing operational processes, policies, and workflows.

  • Lead facility training initiatives andprovidetechnical guidance to the wider team.

  • Prepare operational reports and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and performance.

  • Collaborate across teams to deliver excellent customer service and support businessobjectives.

  • Participate in ongoing learning and professional development to build technical and operationalexpertise.

  • Completeadditionalduties as required by the Facilities Manager.


What you need:



  • Strong customer service skills, with experience managing customer queries and escalations.

  • Excellent planning, organisation, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Knowledge of data centre operations, including rack management, IT equipment installation, power, and cooling systems.

  • Experience with structured cabling, cable management, and quality assurance.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Eagerness to learn about high-density power systems and advanced cooling technologies.

  • Familiarity with building management and monitoring systems (desirable).

  • Relevant electrical or telecommunications installation/testing qualifications (desirable).

  • Basic understanding of the ITIL framework (desirable).


Qualifications


  • 3-5 years' experience in a similar role within a critical facility or data centre.

  • Electrical or telecommunications qualifications and hands-on experience.

  • Experience leading a team or working in a team lead capacity.

  • Certificate III in Telecommunications (preferred)systems

  • HV switching certification(preferred)
