Medical University of Vienna is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to study how metabolic processes regulate tissue regeneration. The project will compare regenerative responses in liver, muscle, kidney, and pancreas, using murine models and stem cell systems to uncover tissue-specific mechanisms.
The role offers opportunities to develop an independent research direction, apply Orbitrap mass spectrometry for metabolomics, and collaborate across disciplines in Vienna.
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Miller Lab at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, and investigate how metabolic processes regulate tissue regeneration. The project will compare regenerative responses in different tissues, with a particular focus on how nuclear metabolic and epigenetic interactions support changes in cellular state, proliferation, and tissue repair.
The project builds on our work of liver regeneration and will extend to tissues that use different regenerative strategies, such as muscle, kidney, and pancreas. The choice of additional regenerative models remains open and can be shaped by the candidate’s scientific interests and expertise. The postdoctoral researcher will establish and apply these complementary murine regeneration models in combination with selected stem cell models to identify tissue-specific mechanisms of regeneration. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop an independent research direction within the project. The metabolic aspects, including state-of-the-art metabolomics and in vivo stable isotope tracing using our Orbitrap mass spectrometer, as well as multiple liver regeneration models, are already established. Other organ regeneration models will need to be developed and optimized. The position therefore offers a unique opportunity for a researcher with strong expertise in regenerative and/or stem cell biology who is interested in gaining expertise in metabolic research at the intersection with epigenetics.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are scientifically curious, technically versatile, and enthusiastic about working across different biological disciplines. Experience in every technique listed above is not expected; however, prior expertise in regenerative biology and substantial experience with mouse models is essential.
The laboratory is located at the Medical University in the heart of beautiful Vienna, one of Europe's most attractive and internationally connected cities. Our young laboratory is an international and interdisciplinary team, bringing together researchers with expertise from different fields, including metabolism, cell and molecular biology, and analytical chemistry. The project provides opportunities to work closely with researchers from different scientific backgrounds and to establish collaborations across disciplines.
