Job summary

TU Wien invites applications for an Assistant Professorship in Protein Engineering within the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry. The role focuses on designing novel biocatalysts and integrating AI-based design with experimental workflows, complemented by teaching duties in both German and English.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent doctoral qualification in a relevant field from a domestic or foreign institution.
• International post-doctoral experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience in protein engineering with focus on new-to-nature reactivity and biocatalysis is essential.
• In silico methods for protein optimization (e.g., AlphaFold3, ML docking) are highly desirable.
• Ability to lead research projects and collaborate with industry and international partners.

Responsibilities

• Establish an innovative research profile at the interface of chemistry and biology.
• Teach in German and English in Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programs.
• Develop and manage research projects in protein engineering and biocatalysis.
• Lead a research group and contribute to institute and faculty management.
