STARD, a high-performance R&D unit near Vienna, seeks a Senior Structural FEA Simulation Engineer for metallics & composites. You will develop 1D/3D models in Hypermesh, define load cases with the mechanical team, run OptiStruct, and post-process results with HyperView.

You’ll interpret safety factors and propose design improvements. Requirements include a degree in engineering with structural-analysis focus, strong materials knowledge, and English proficiency.

Aufgaben

Senior Structural FEA Simulation Engineer, Metallics & Composites

STARD is an internationally recognized
Austrian R&D specialist business unit of family-owned Stohl Group
GmbH, with a focus on motorsport and high performance automotive
vehicles, in-house test-track and 24 years of
successful operation. We cover the whole process chain for entire
vehicle development, assembly, testing, vehicle operation and racing
completely in-house.

Our recently acquired very own proving ground and test track, which
also includes an off-road area, is part of our new very well equipped
company headquarter located right outside of Vienna, accessible with
public transportation and just 15 driving minutes from the Vienna
International Airport.

In addition to ICE and EV entire vehicle development, STARD´s focus also lies on following key areas:

• High performance FIA certified HV battery systems
• High performance Electric Drive Units (integrated and individual E-Motor, Inverter and transmission systems)
• Complete E/E systems for ground, aerial, and marine vehicles
• ICE-ECU and E-VCU software development and calibration
• Advanced Powertrain control strategies including 4WD torque vectoring systems
• Chassis and suspension systems
• Worldwide Racing activity (in very close collaboration with sister
  business unit “Stohl Racing”) including:Rally, Rallycross, Circuit
  Racing, Offroad, Special programmes (e.g. Pikes Peak, Nürburgring
  Laprecords,…)

Job Description

Senior Structural FEA Simulation Engineer, Metallics & Composites

Selection of associated activities include:

• Developing and preparing FEA models (1D and 3D) for composite and metallic structures using Altair Hypermesh (within Altair Workbench).
• Define load cases based on internal and external requirements, in close collaboration with the mechanical engineering team
• Executing structural computations using Altair OptiStruct.
• Post-process and analyze results based using HyperView / Hypergraph and in-house tools
• Interpretation of results including calculation of safety factors
• Documentation and interpretation of results accessible for relevant team members
• Provide recommendations to improve the design
• Optimize components to meet specific target (i.e. stiffness, weight, etc.)
• Apply topology optimization approaches where applicable
• Use analytical and hand calculation approaches where applicable
• Sizing and specifying of fasteners
• Profound knowledge of metallic and composite materials
• Profound knowledge of various material and manufacturing technologies and their impact on structural integrity of components
• Advantageous: Preparing models in CATIA V5
• Advantageous: Analysis of simple models in CATIA V5

Profile

• Bachelor or Master degree in engineering or similar qualification with specialization in structural analysis
• Profound knowledge of composite and metallic materials
• Relevant experience as structural engineer is required
• Experience in the motorsport automotive industry is advantageous
• Excellent knowledge of structural analysis is required
• Expert knowledge of using the Altair Workbench suite, including Hypermesh, OptiStruct, HyperView, and Hypergraph is advantageous
• Self-organized and proactive problem-solving approach
• Ability to prioritize workload and tasks to deliver required results in time
• Proficiency with standard office suite tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Perfect English skills (verbal & read/write)
• Above average commitment, as usual in competitive high-performance development & motorsport
• Excellent communication, teamwork and social skills
