The Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry at Universität Wien invites applications for the position of Senior Scientist in Environmental Bioinorganic Chemistry (20h).

The role focuses on developing an environmental bioinorganic research program, supervising students, teaching, and pursuing third-party funding; initially limited to four years with possible permanent employment after positive evaluation.

Qualifikationen

  • Ph.D. in chemistry or closely related field.
  • Postdoctoral research experience in an internationally visible academic environment.
  • Strong publication record in environmental bioinorganic chemistry.
  • Clear interest in developing new research directions; experience in acquiring third-party funding preferred.
  • Excellent English; German knowledge desirable.

Aufgaben

  • Develop and operate an original research program focused on environmental aspects of bioinorganic chemistry.
  • Collaborate with team members to strengthen the research mission of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry.
  • Supervise students at all levels through scientific guidance, regular feedback, and structured mentoring.
  • Teach lectures on environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology and sustainability.
  • Prepare and submit research grant applications and seek third-party funding.
  • Publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at national/international conferences.
  • Participate in teaching activities and administrative tasks within the Institute.

The Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry invites applications for the position of Senior Scientist in Environmental Bioinorganic Chemistry (20h). Our multidisciplinary team seeks a talented, highly motivated scientist to pursue environmentally related research with a primary focus on bioinorganic chemistry. Relevant scientific interests may be at the interface with (eco)toxicology, microbiology, marine biology, environmental remediation, and related areas. Our team offers significant experience and expertise in the biological and medicinal chemistry of transition metals, with an emphasis on the biochemistry and physiology of iron.

The position is initially limited to 4 years, with the possibility of permanent employment by mutual agreement following a positive evaluation.

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • Development and operation of an original research program focused on environmental aspects of bioinorganic chemistry.
  • Collaboration with team members to strengthen the research mission of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry.
  • Supervision of students at all levels through scientific guidance, regular feedback, and structured mentoring.
  • Teaching lectures on topics including environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology and sustainability.
  • Preparation and submission of research grant applications and acquisition of third-party funding.
  • Publication of scientific findings in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and presentation of results at national and international scientific conferences.
  • Participation in teaching activities, including teaching courses independently or in teams, within the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Participation in administrative tasks related to research, project coordination, teaching, and mentoring activities within the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry.

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in chemistry or closely related field.
  • Postdoctoral research experience in an internationally visible academic research environment.
  • Demonstrated excellence and strong publication record in research areas relevant to environmental bioinorganic chemistry.
  • Clear scientific interest in developing new research directions is required, and experience in the acquisition of third-party funding for academic research is preferred.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent research, combined with a strong willingness to integrate into an established research team.
  • Teaching expertise and lecturing experience on topics like environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology, and sustainability.
  • Excellent communication skills in English are required, and basic knowledge of German is desired.
  • Strong organizational and mentoring skills.
  • High level of commitment, reliability, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an academic environment.
