The University of Vienna invites applications for a University Assistant Postdoctoral position in the González research group within the Institute of Theoretical Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry. The role focuses on computational characterization of strongly correlated materials with potential quantum computing applications.

The successful candidate will participate in research, teach at the undergraduate level, supervise students, and engage with national and international partners.

Qualifikationen

• A PhD in Theoretical Chemistry, Computational Physics or a related field of research.
• Proficiency in applying and extending contemporary computational methods to chemical problems requiring a mixed quantum/classical treatment.
• Experience in quantum chemistry and reaction dynamics.
• Interest in applying methods to simulate materials for quantum computation technologies.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or C/C++/Fortran.
• Willingness to collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment at the interface of theoretical chemistry and quantum technologies.
• Excellent verbal and written German and English communication skills.
• Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

The González research group (https://theochem.univie.ac.at/) at the Institute of Theoretical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry aims at understanding chemical phenomena using contemporary computational and theoretical methods. We employ and extend ab initio quantum chemistry to understand and predict structure and reactivity in the ground and electronic excited states. Further, we use and develop classical and quantum dynamical methods to explain molecular photochemical process, also in complex environments.

A university postdoc position is available at the Institute of Theoretical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Vienna as a replacement position, limited until July 31st, 2028.

The position focuses on the computational characterization of strongly correlated materials, with potential applications for quantum computing.

Besides research, the candidate is expected to design and teach courses in German, at undergraduate level. The teaching workload is defined according to the collective agreement.
