Zusammenfassung

TU Wien is Austria's largest research and higher education institution in technology and natural sciences. The Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry seeks to fill a postdoc position in the Laboratory for Functional Aromatic Molecules, starting October 2026 (40 hours per week, limited to ~7 months or duration of parental leave).

Responsibilities include researching conjugated organic materials, project management, publications, and teaching activities, with excellent written and spoken English

The Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry is seeking to fill a position as a university assistant (postdoc) in the Laboratory for Functional Aromatic Molecules , tentative start date in October 2026 (40 hours per week, limited until expected 7 month, or at latest for the duration of the leave of absence), with the responsibilities described below.

Tasks:

  • Research in the field of the synthesis, characterization, and application of conjugated organic materials, particularly conjugated polymers and conjugated macrocycles
  • Participation in the acquisition, implementation, and administration of research projects
  • Preparation and drafting of publications (including presentations) and invention disclosures
  • Processing and curating research data for publication in accordance with the FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) principles
  • Supervision of students
  • Development and implementation of course material as well as participation in teaching activities in the above-mentioned field
  • Assistance with examinations
  • Participation in and organization of scientific events
  • Assistance with organizational and administrative tasks, as well as evaluation activities
  • Completion of an appropriate doctorate by the start of employment at the latest
  • Scientific publication activity in international academic journals
  • Excellent written and spoken English (C1)
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in the synthesis, characterization, and application of conjugated organic materials
  • Teaching experience
  • Interest in and enjoyment of research and working with students
  • Ability to work in a team and strong problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge and experience in the synthesis, characterization, and application of polymers
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of conjugated organic materials in electronic devices
  • Experience with national and/or international research cooperation as well as in project management
  • Experience in (co-)supervision of students
  • Research experience outside of Austria

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 5,014.30/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
