Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) seeks a highly capable quantitative scientist to advance MIND-MAP by developing mathematical and computational tools for 3D microglia morphology analysis. You will work with international partners to bridge theory and experiment in neuroscience.
Requirements include a PhD near completion in a quantitative field, strong modeling and computing skills, and proficiency in Python/MATLAB/C++.
MIND-MAP (Microglia Integrative Network of Dynamics – Morphology, Analysis, and Prediction) is an interdisciplinary and international FWF WEAVE project between Siegert (Austria), Dłotko (Poland), and Hahn (Czech Republic) groups to investigate how the dynamic 3D morphology of microglia reflects their functional states in the healthy adult brain. The project combines state-of-the-art microscopy, machine learning, numerical modeling, and topological data analysis to develop next-generation computational tools for quantifying microglial morphology and dynamics. MIND-MAP aims to establish a predictive framework that links cell shape to brain function and to generate open-source methods for the quantitative analysis of complex cellular morphology. This position is ideal for a quantitative scientist who enjoys developing new mathematical and computational methods while working closely with experimental researchers to answer fundamental questions in neuroscience.
Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) is a constantly growing international institute forconducting world-class research in mathematics, computer science, life sciences & physical sciences.
