Zusammenfassung

Empa is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to develop thin films and deposition processes with cutting-edge AI and autonomous experiments. You will work at the intersection of experimental materials science and informatics, collaborating in an interdisciplinary team to push forward ultrathin functional films.

The focus includes pieso- and ferroelectric nitrides with synchronized HiPIMS, in-situ analysis, and a unique self-driving thin-film laboratory.

Qualifikationen

• PhD in physics, materials science, chemistry, electrical engineering or related field.
• Knowledge of UHV and thin-film technology.
• Experience with PVD and surface science.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Interest in lab-automation and AI.
• Excellent English communication.

Aufgaben

• Conduct physical vapor deposition experiments using HiPIMS.
• Perform in-depth materials characterization and surface analysis.
• Apply and improve high-throughput experimental workflows including closed-loop thin-film optimization.
• Apply AI and Machine Learning for data analysis and modelling.
• Develop, improve and implement HW/SW concepts and components to automate experiments and enable autonomous experiments.
