Job summary

Placements24 is assisting a leading miner in recruiting an experienced Mine Ventilation Engineer for its Queenstown, Eastern Cape operations. This on-site role focuses on designing, implementing, and optimizing ventilation systems to ensure safe air quality, temperature, and pressure in underground workings.

The candidate will perform airflow analyses, monitor environmental conditions, and develop comprehensive ventilation plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering with a specialization in ventilation or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mine ventilation engineering, preferably underground mining.
• Proficiency in mine ventilation software such as Ventsim and VentGraph.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and environmental control in mines.
• Knowledge of dust and gas control techniques, including measurement and mitigation.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively on-site and collaborate with various site personnel.
• Good communication and report writing skills.
• Knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act regulations in SA.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and optimize mine ventilation systems to meet safety and production requirements.
• Conduct airflow and heat transfer analysis to determine ventilation needs and predict conditions.
• Monitor air quality, temperature, humidity, and gas concentrations throughout the mine.
• Develop and manage ventilation plans, including dilution and control of dust and gases.
• Specify and select ventilation equipment such as fans, ducting, and air movers.
• Oversee installation, maintenance, and performance testing of ventilation systems.
• Investigate ventilation-related issues and develop corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with mine planning and operations to integrate ventilation needs into design.
• Prepare technical reports and training materials on mine ventilation.
