The University of Vienna invites applications for a professorship representing religious education and catechetics. The candidate will conduct research and teaching, lead large projects, and collaborate across theology disciplines, schools, and church networks in Vienna.
Requirements include a doctoral degree in Catholic theology with habilitation or equivalent achievements, plus a track record of funded research and strong teaching at all degree levels.
The holder of the position represents religious education and catechetics in research and teaching in their respective breadth and is actively involved in academic self-administration. The position is physically located at the Faculty of Catholic Theology (KTF) and is organisationally allocated 50% to the Centre for Teacher Education. This requires close interdisciplinary and interreligious cooperation (Protestant, Islamic and Orthodox theology/religious education as well as other subject didactics). The questions of religious education are intensively researched both hermeneutically and empirically. Questions of faith communication as well as the addressee-oriented translation of theological findings are part of the profile of the professorship. Proactive cooperation with church and state officials as well as the Private University College of Teacher Education of Christian Churches Vienna/Lower Austria is expected. The academic qualification is proven by a doctorate in Catholic theology and an excellent habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements as well as the successful acquisition of third‑party funding. Knowledge of the Austrian school system, church educational work and practical school experience are required.
The University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor's programmes and for participation in university committees.
