Job summary

WU Vienna University of Economics and Business seeks a founding Senior Scientist to build a new energy research cluster, Energy Transitions and Future Energy Systems, connecting economics, policy, law, and technology. You will lead workshops, design governance, and secure funding while mentoring early-career researchers in Vienna.

The role is part-time (20 hours/week) starting January 01, 2027 and limited to December 31, 2027, with opportunities for ongoing collaboration and impact in a major

Qualifications

• PhD in economics, social sciences, management, public policy, law, energy systems, engineering or related field.
• Established researcher with a strong publication record in energy-related questions.
• Ability to secure funding beyond the first year is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead research workshops across departments to define a shared energy research agenda.
• Develop funding and governance models; lead multi-PI grant applications.
• Manage day-to-day operations of the energy cluster with a small team.
• Convene the energy research community through events and speaker series.
• Establish partnerships with policymakers, industry, and international bodies to strengthen impact.
