Job summary

Mistral is building a sovereign AI cloud for Europe. This senior leadership role will manage the team, hire, coach, and guide architecture decisions while staying close to the code, roughly half time on design and the rest on leadership.

You will design secure, isolated environments for AI agents, scale fleets, and partner with Product Managers to turn frontier research into shipable primitives. Experience leading engineers and delivering backend/infrastructure systems is required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of real people leadership, with hands-on contribution
• Deep Linux internals experience (namespaces, cgroups, seccomp, virtualization)
• Shipped production Go backend systems
• Strong understanding of network isolation at packet level
• 8+ years building backend or infrastructure systems
• Collaborated with product, design, and business teams
• Low-ego, team-first mindset that motivates engineers

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the engineering team from day one, including hiring and performance reviews
• Balance architectural decisions with hands-on coding where needed
• Own security boundary and scale for thousands of environments
• Collaborate with Product Managers to turn frontier research into deployable primitives
• Own people management for the team and coach engineers beyond their comfort zone
• Ship robust, secure, and maintainable infrastructure across Europe
