Job summary

European Investment Bank, based in Luxembourg, seeks an Associate Energy Sector Specialist to contribute to appraising energy sector projects and programmes. You will assess technical, economic and financial soundness, market relevance, policy alignment and impact, supporting robust financing decisions in line with the EU Climate Bank mandate.

You will join the Energy Advisory and Energy Efficiency Division within the Energy and Environment Department and collaborate with multidisciplinary

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Economics, Finance, or related discipline.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in the energy sector including due diligence, appraisal, implementation or monitoring.
• Knowledge of energy markets, EU energy and climate policy frameworks and related regulatory arrangements.
• Ability to contribute to financial and economic analysis including financial models and scenario analyses.
• Excellent English and French; knowledge of additional EU languages is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to investment decisions by assessing technical, economic and financial viability of energy projects.
• Evaluate strategic fit, affordability, environmental and social aspects, and alignment with EU/EIB objectives.
• Analyse energy markets, risks, pricing, tariffs and regulatory frameworks to inform project viability.
• Collaborate with lending teams and project teams across the lifecycle from screening to completion.
• Assess financing considerations, run sensitivity and scenario analyses and discuss risk allocation.
• Produce concise appraisal and monitoring reports and provide clear advice to decision-makers.
• Engage with external stakeholders, including promoters, authorities and EU bodies, for project development.
• Support external analytical work and technical assistance with consultant briefings and outputs.
