Job summary

European Investment Bank in Luxembourg is seeking an Investment Officer to originate and execute growth capital transactions across the EU, focusing on Cleantech, energy, mobility and decarbonisation sectors. You will lead the investment lifecycle from screening to disbursement and work with founders, CEOs and CFOs, as well as internal risk and legal teams.

The role requires a university degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, strong financial modelling skills, and fluency in English.

Qualifications

• University degree (minimum equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience in venture debt, venture/growth capital, private equity or investment banking.
• Proficiency in financial modelling in MS Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent knowledge of English; knowledge of French and other EU languages an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead direct equity‑type transactions across the full investment lifecycle, including origination and initial screening, due diligence, structuring, approval, documentation, execution and disbursement.
• Originate investment opportunities aligned with EIB’s strategic priorities and objectives.
• Perform due diligence on companies and projects in collaboration with the EIB Projects Directorate.
• Structure transactions and prepare term sheets using equity‑type instruments (venture debt, convertible debt, warrants, and other hybrids).
• Prepare investment proposals for approval by decision makers with clear rationale and risks.
• Negotiate and execute finance documentation with internal and external counsel.
• Monitor portfolio companies post-signature up to disbursement.
• Support knowledge sharing and non‑transactional work for the team.
• Represent the Bank at relevant conferences and sector events.
