Job summary

MED-EL, based in Innsbruck, Austria, seeks a scientist to support cochlear implant planning by analyzing CT and MRI scans of the inner ear and performing segmentation and quantitative image analysis. The role is embedded in the R&D department in Innsbruck and requires strong imaging skills in English.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Medical Physics, Imaging Science, Computer Science, or related field.
• Strong understanding of medical imaging, particularly CT and MRI.
• Knowledge of CT image interpretation: windowing, spatial resolution, slice thickness, and voxel dimensions.
• Familiarity with MRI image contrast and imaging sequences; documentation in English.
• Ability to work with complex imaging datasets and communicate effectively in English.

Responsibilities

• Analyze pre-operative CT and MRI scans of the temporal bone and inner ear.
• Identify cochlear, vestibule, semicircular canals and other key structures.
• Perform manual and semi-automatic segmentation of inner-ear structures.
• Carry out anatomical measurements and quantitative image analysis.
• Contribute to tools for standardized inner-ear classification and cochlear implant planning.
