Job summary

OpenMined is a nonprofit building open-source infrastructure for federated AI. We seek a Senior Software Engineer to design and ship core privacy-preserving evaluation infrastructure, mostly in Python, collaborating with external organizations and handling deployments in partner environments.

You’ll extend PySyft, work on secure enclaves, and help move products from one deployment to several. This is a fully remote, independent contractor role with a 12-month term and overlapping US ET hours.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional engineering experience with strong Python.
• Hands-on coding daily; clean, reliable, well-tested code.
• Strong software architecture and systems design understanding.
• Effective written and verbal communication; remote collaboration.
• Full-stack experience across backend, data, frontend, deployment.
• Experience with CI/CD and cloud infrastructure.
• Security, scalability, and reliability considerations.
• Ability to turn ambiguous requirements into clear designs.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship core privacy-preserving AI evaluation infra.
• Strengthen secure enclaves (TEEs) solutions.
• Extend PySyft library (workers, receipts).
• Deploy and support software in partner environments.
• Improve reliability, scale, and user experience.
• Write clean, tested code and review teammates.
• Explain trade-offs to engineers and non-engineers.
• Use AI coding tools to move fast while preserving quality.
