OpenMined is seeking a Senior / Staff Software Engineer to lead the ScreamingFace squad and build the leaderboard for fusion models and the open toolkit for benchmark evaluations. You’ll write production-grade Python, shape architecture, and mentor a distributed team across time zones to deliver reliable, scalable systems.

This independent contractor engagement is roughly full-time for 12 months with overlap into US Eastern business hours.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor) and managing agentic workflows.
• Strong Python (3.12+) proficiency including FastAPI, async orchestration, typed SDKs, parsers, ASTs, and DAG execution.
• Distributed systems and API design experience across multiple teams.

Responsabilités

• Own ScreamingFace squad architecture end-to-end across stack for reliable capabilities and UX.
• Drive production readiness with deployment monitoring, error handling, and graceful degradation.
• Mentor team to establish norms around engineering best practices, code quality, and production delivery.
• Collaborate on core technology stack strategy and define shared interfaces to prevent tight coupling.
• Partner with product to develop and execute scalable roadmaps and realistic timelines.
• Own quarterly engineering goals and ensure high-impact delivery and resourcing.
