Job summary

Medallia is seeking a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to own PostgreSQL clusters' availability, performance, and lifecycle in a hybrid Buenos Aires-based setup. You will drive incident reviews, automation, and cross-team collaboration for a scalable SaaS data layer.

Strong PostgreSQL internals knowledge, experience with HA, backups, upgrades, and SQL tuning are essential. English fluency and willingness to join on-call rotations are required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years running PostgreSQL in large-scale production.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL internals (MVCC, vacuum, WAL).
• Experience with backup, point-in-time recovery, and restore validation.
• Replication and high availability experience; major-version upgrades.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities

• Own the availability and performance of production PostgreSQL clusters, with defined SLAs.
• Own the database lifecycle: provisioning, configuration, maintenance, upgrades, scaling.
• Own backup, recovery, replication, and high availability; perform restore tests and drills.
• Manage capacity planning and growth of the PostgreSQL estate.
• Build monitoring/alerting reflecting service objectives; reduce noise.
• Create automation, tooling, and services to replace manual DB work.
• Provide self-service workflows for teams to operate databases.
• Review schema migrations and guide PostgreSQL best practices with product teams.
• Troubleshoot cross-layer problems (db/os/net/app).
• Lead incident response and blameless root-cause analysis.
• Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate troubleshooting and automation.
• Mentor other DBREs and maintain runbooks.
• Participate in on-call rotation and planned maintenance windows.
