Job summary

Medallia is seeking a hands-on Senior Platform Software Engineer to operate streaming platforms like Kafka and Flink at scale. You will ensure availability, reliability, and scalability across production environments and collaborate with cross-functional teams to standardize infrastructure patterns.

The role is hybrid with 3 days onsite in the Buenos Aires vicinity, prioritizing candidates nearby. You will work on improving automation, observability, and incident response for mission-critical

Qualifications

• Hands-on Kafka operations experience in production
• Experience diagnosing and resolving incidents in distributed systems
• Designing or evaluating high availability and fault-tolerance strategies
• Proficiency in Java, Go, or Python or similar languages
• Experience documenting designs and leading architectural reviews
• Professional working English proficiency, both spoken and written

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain Kafka, Flink, Debezium, and Apicurio platforms.
• Manage Kafka brokers, partitions, replication, ISR health, consumer groups, upgrades, and recovery.
• Troubleshoot producer, consumer, networking, authentication, serialization, and lag issues.
• Operate Flink runtime components and jobs, including checkpoints, state, scaling, and recovery.
• Manage Debezium connector lifecycle, offsets, snapshots, failures, and schema changes.
• Support schema evolution and compatibility through Apicurio Registry.
• Lead production incident triage, root-cause analysis, and performance tuning.
• Review event-driven architectures and recommend reliable and scalable platform patterns.
• Build automation, observability, alerts, documentation, and operational playbooks.
• Participate in periodic on-call rotation to maintain 24/7 reliability and performance.
