Job summary

Proofpoint is seeking a Senior DevOps and Data Engineer to join the Data Platform team. This hybrid role blends platform engineering with data infrastructure, owning reliability, automation, and delivery of systems powering data pipelines and analytics.

You will build and maintain AWS-first cloud infrastructure, CI/CD tooling, and DevOps practices enabling data teams to ship high-quality data products safely.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or SRE, with at least 2 years in data engineering.
• Deep expertise with AWS core services: S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, Lambda, ECS/EKS, Secrets Manager, CloudFormation/CDK.
• Hands-on experience with AWS data services: Glue ETL, Athena, and S3 lifecycle/encryption.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools: Terraform and/or AWS CDK for production environments.
• Strong CI/CD experience across GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent.
• Experience with Docker and container orchestration (ECS/EKS/Kubernetes).

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, deployment, and promotion of AWS Glue ETL jobs and related data infrastructure.
• Build and manage AWS cloud infrastructure using IaC (Terraform / CDK) including S3, IAM, Glue, Athena, VPCs, and Lake Formation permissions.
• Own the observability stack: metrics, logs, and alerts to ensure SLA compliance and rapid incident response.
• Develop and maintain the DataOps self-service tooling, templates, and libraries for production-grade pipelines.
• Manage container and compute infrastructure (Docker, ECS, EKS, Lambda) for data ingestion microservices and orchestration workers.
• Operate workflow orchestration environments (MWAA, Apache Airflow, Step Functions) including upgrades and scaling.
• Build and maintain AWS Glue ETL jobs (PySpark) for large-scale data ingestion and transformation.
• Drive security best practices across data platform: Secrets Manager, least-privilege IAM, network segmentation.
• Collaborate with data engineers/scientists/security to translate requirements into scalable infrastructure.
• Lead incident response for data platform outages and drive post-mortem improvements.
• Mentor juniors and conduct code/design reviews.
