Kiwi is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, build, and evolve scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js, TypeScript, and Express.js. You will own technical solutions end-to-end, contribute to architectural decisions, and address technical debt while ensuring security and reliability across production systems.

You will work with AWS infrastructure, observability tooling, and AI-assisted development approaches to improve speed and quality, all within a fully remote setup across Argentina,

Formación

• 8+ years of professional backend engineering experience, with production systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and TypeScript in production environments.
• Experience with Express.js or comparable backend frameworks.
• Experience with Python and familiarity with FastAPI, Django, or similar.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, design principles, and design patterns.
• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL, data modeling, transactions, indexing, migrations, performance.
• Experience with ORMs and persistence patterns.
• Strong understanding of API design, authentication, authorization, versioning, security, and third-party integrations.
• Experience designing systems for failure scenarios, including retries and partial failures.
• Production experience with AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with CI/CD, containers, and modern software delivery practices.
• Strong understanding of observability and production troubleshooting.
• Ability to analyze architectural alternatives and explain decisions.
• Strong ownership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work autonomously on complex technical problems while collaborating effectively.

Responsabilidades

• Design, build, and evolve scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js, TypeScript, and Express.js.
• Own technical solutions end-to-end from design to deployment and production support.
• Contribute to backend architecture and participate in design decisions.
• Identify, prioritize, and address technical debt for maintainability.
• Apply solid software design principles and appropriate patterns.
• Define clear boundaries across services and persistence layers.
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, queries, indexes, migrations, and workflows.
• Build reliable financial workflows with idempotency, concurrency, and reconciliation.
• Design and maintain REST APIs and integrations with internal/external providers.
• Develop asynchronous, event-driven workflows where appropriate.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, security, and performance of systems.
• Work with AWS infrastructure and cloud services for production systems.
• Improve production visibility via logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and alerts.
• Investigate production incidents and implement sustainable solutions.
• Maintain high engineering quality through automated testing, code reviews, documentation, and refactoring.
• Leverage AI-assisted tools while maintaining human ownership of decisions.
• Share knowledge and strengthen the engineering team’s capabilities.
• Collaborate with Product, QA, Data, Platform, and other engineers to translate requirements into robust solutions.
