Bayer is seeking the Research and Impact Acceleration Lead to define and drive the vision, strategy, and multi-year plan for accelerating research across the early breeding pipeline, delivering faster, higher-quality product delivery for growers worldwide.

The incumbent for this position may be based in the United States (US), Germany. As the Research and Impact Acceleration Lead, you are part of the Product Design Capability Center and report to the Head of Product Design. In this role, you define and lead the vision, strategy, and multi-year plan for accelerating research and impact across the team through improvements in germplasm improvement units. You mobilize the organization to turn speed of learning, evidence quality, and iteration capacity into a durable competitive advantage in how the early part of the breeding pipeline operates, ensuring that innovation translates into faster, higher-quality product delivery for growers and customers worldwide.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Define the vision and multi-year strategy for research acceleration across the early breeding pipeline, framing where faster learning creates durable competitive advantage and translating this into a prioritized portfolio against the highest-value constraints in cycle time, genetic gain, decision quality, and product delivery;
• Establish how the organization formulates and answers research questions by setting standards for hypothesis-driven design, decision-ready evidence, and disciplined scale, pivot, or stop decisions so that rapid iteration becomes the default operating rhythm rather than a collection of individual projects;
• Shape the enabling-technology agenda across accelerated breeding, genomics, phenotyping, predictive analytics, automation, and digital workflows, directing investment and partnerships toward the capabilities that will differentiate the pipeline;
• Lead the adoption strategy that institutionalizes proven innovation, governing the standards, workflows, training, and change management required to embed new practices across crops and regions at scale;
• Own the impact narrative and its metrics by defining how acceleration value is measured and reported on cycle time, genetic gain, cost, quality, and adoption, and using that evidence to steer investment, leadership decisions, and the Long-Range Plan;
• Provide technical, strategic, and product knowledge to the Capability Center, strategically contributing to key global Precision Breeding, Breeding, and R&D focus areas;
• Lead and contribute to Global Breeding strategies and the Long-Range Plan (LRP), ensuring alignment with high-level functional and commercial goals;
• Engage strategically with key universities to coach and guide future talent development, ensuring Bayer is viewed as a strategic talent destination of choice;
• Serve as a member of various L3 leadership units across commercial and product supply teams, helping connect research acceleration with downstream product and supply decisions;
• Ensure a strong focus on HS&E, Compliance, DEI, Business Conduct, and Human Rights across the Capability Hub, fostering a culture that emphasizes ethical practices, safety, inclusion, and responsibility.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

• PhD degree or MS degree in Plant or Animal Breeding, Quantitative or Statistical Genetics, Data Science, or a related field

• Strong knowledge of advanced breeding technologies, advanced analytics and information technologies, genomics, and/or quantitative genetics, with a proven track record of driving innovation into applied pipelines;

• Strong ability to collaborate and build cross-functional partnerships to solve complex business and technical problems across regions and functions;

• Demonstrated ability to embrace and role-model VACC leadership attributes, aligned with Bayer's Values, Ambition, Collaboration, and Creativity expectations, within the Capability Center and with peers and colleagues across Bayer Crop Science.

Preferred Qualifications :

• 5+ years of technology leadership experience, or MS degree with 8+ years of technology leadership experience;
• Experience leading research acceleration, precision breeding, or early pipeline innovation initiatives in a global R&D environment;
• Experience working within large, matrixed organizations and contributing to cross-functional strategies that span R&D, product design, and commercial teams;
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive adoption of new ways of working across diverse teams and geographies;
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex scientific and strategic concepts into clear, decision-ready insights for leadership and partners.

In the US, employees can expect to be paid a salary between ($154300 to $231500). This range reflects the national US market rate (“salary range”) for base pay for the relevant role. Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive compensation (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
