Johnson Matthey is seeking a Financial Accountant (Compliance & Controls) in Pilar with hybrid arrangements. You will own statutory reporting, ensure P&L and balance sheet integrity, and lead monthly reviews.

The role requires IFRS knowledge and collaboration with Finance and non‑finance teams to strengthen controls and drive compliance. The position offers hybrid work, external audit management, and a focus on processes that support a sustainable, responsible business.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading financial controls, compliance and risk management activities.
• Ability to work collaboratively across finance and non‑finance teams.
• Strong technical accounting expertise; ACA, CIMA or equivalent is a plus.
• In-depth knowledge of IFRS and experience applying standards in global contexts.
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
• Structured, delivery-focused approach to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Owning statutory and legal financial reporting for the site, including preparation and sign‑off of statutory accounts and financial accounting packs.
• Delivering accurate P&L and balance sheet reporting, coordinating with Plant Management Accountants and Accounting Services.
• Leading monthly balance sheet and P&L reviews, ensuring IFRS compliance and internal policies.
• Managing external audit and statutory close processes, liaising with auditors and third‑party queries.
• Designing, implementing and monitoring plant‑level financial controls and remediation actions.
• Partnering with Sector Finance on tax, treasury, policy and compliance matters.

The role:

As a Financial Accountant (Compliance & Controls), you will help drive our goals by:

• Owning statutory and legal financial reporting for the site, including preparation and sign‑off of statutory accounts and financial accounting packs.
• Delivering accurate P&L and balance sheet reporting, working closely with Plant Management Accountants and Accounting Services to ensure data integrity.
• Leading monthly balance sheet and P&L reviews, ensuring compliance with IFRS, internal accounting policies and control requirements.
• Managing external audit and statutory close processes, acting as the primary contact for auditors and third‑party queries.
• Designing, implementing and monitoring plant‑level financial controls, identifying risks and driving remediation actions where required.
• Partnering with Sector Finance teams on tax, treasury, accounting policy and wider compliance matters, including ad‑hoc improvement projects.

Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:

• Proven experience leading financial controls, compliance and risk management activities.
• Ability to work collaboratively across finance and non‑finance teams.
• Strong technical accounting expertise, Professional accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA or equivalent – nice to have)
• In‑depth knowledge of IFRS and experience applying standards within a complex or global organisation.
• Strong communication skills with a high level of written and spoken English.
• A structured, delivery‑focused approach with the confidence to manage multiple priorities under time pressure.
