Job summary

Johnson Matthey Plc in Pilar is seeking a Financial Accountant (Compliance & Controls) to own statutory reporting and sign-off. You’ll deliver P&L and balance sheet packs with data integrity and lead monthly reviews ensuring IFRS compliance and strong internal controls.

Collaborating with Plant Management and global finance teams, you’ll drive control remediation, support external audits, and maintain accurate close processes while communicating effectively in English.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading financial controls, compliance and risk management.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and ability to apply standards in a global setting.
• Excellent written and spoken English with formal accounting background.

Responsibilities

• Owning statutory and legal financial reporting for the site, including sign-off of statutory accounts and packs.
• Delivering accurate P&L and balance sheet reporting with data integrity.
• Leading monthly balance sheet and P&L reviews in line with IFRS and policies.
• Managing external audits and statutory close processes with auditors.
• Designing, implementing and monitoring plant-level financial controls and remediation actions.

Financial Accountant (Compliance & Controls)

Location: Pilar (hybrid)

At Johnson Matthey, your work will matter. As a Financial Accountant (Compliance & Controls), you’ll join a world leader in platinum group metals with over 200 years of history. The role:

• Owning statutory and legal financial reporting for the site, including preparation and sign‑off of statutory accounts and financial accounting packs.
• Delivering accurate P&L and balance sheet reporting, working closely with Plant Management Accountants and Accounting Services to ensure data integrity.
• Leading monthly balance sheet and P&L reviews, ensuring compliance with IFRS, internal accounting policies and control requirements.
• Managing external audit and statutory close processes, acting as the primary contact for auditors and third‑party queries.
• Designing, implementing and monitoring plant‑level financial controls, identifying risks and driving remediation actions where required.
• Partnering with Sector Finance teams on tax, treasury, accounting policy and wider compliance matters, including ad‑hoc improvement projects.

Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:

• Proven experience leading financial controls, compliance and risk management activities.
• Ability to work collaboratively across finance and non‑finance teams.
• Strong technical accounting expertise, Professional accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA or equivalent – nice to have)
• In‑depth knowledge of IFRS and experience applying standards within a complex or global organisation.
• Strong communication skills with a high level of written and spoken English.
• A structured, delivery‑focused approach with the confidence to manage multiple priorities under time pressure.
