Prometeo Talent is partnering with a US cybersecurity startup to hire a Senior Backend Engineer. You will design, build, and maintain scalable backend services in Java and Python, shaping distributed systems and data pipelines.

This remote role emphasizes ownership and high‑impact delivery within a fast‑moving team. You will work on AI‑assisted development workflows, integrations, and production‑grade architectures while collaborating closely with product and engineering across time zones.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering or backend development.
• 5+ professional experience with Python, building and maintaining production‑grade backend systems.
• Strong experience with Java.
• Hands‑on experience with AI/LLM‑based application development (AI agents, agentic systems, or LLM‑powered applications)
• Experience building AI‑driven features, LLM integrations, or agentic workflows in production environments is highly preferred.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, scalable architectures, and asynchronous processing.
• Experience working with databases, message queues, and data processing pipelines.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
• Proven experience building, maintaining, optimizing, and improving products after launch.
• Strong ownership mindset, autonomy, and ability to thrive in startup or fast‑paced environments.
• Advanced English level.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Python.
• Develop distributed systems involving databases, APIs, message queues, and data processing pipelines.
• Take full ownership of features and services throughout their lifecycle, from design and implementation to monitoring and optimization.
• Build production‑ready systems with a strong focus on reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Improve system performance, scalability, and operational efficiency across the platform.
• Leverage AI‑assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while ensuring code quality and engineering best practices.
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to key technical decisions as the company scales.
• Continuously improve development processes, tooling, and engineering standards.
