We are looking for an experienced Workshop Fabrication Engineer to manage and coordinate day-to-day steel fabrication, workshop production, fabrication engineering, assembly, welding, cutting, drilling, fit-up, inspection, surface preparation, painting, packing, and dispatch activities.The ideal candidate should have strong practical experience in structural steel fabrication, fabrication drawings, shop drawings, IFC drawings, BOQ, MTO, cutting lists, CNC machines, fabrication sequences, welding, WPS/PQR, NDT, dimensional inspection, material traceability, production planning, manpower coordination, workshop productivity, QA/QC, and project delivery.
Supervise and coordinate daily workshop fabrication and production activities.
Manage fabrication activities from raw material receiving through cutting, fit-up, welding, assembly, inspection, blasting, painting, packing, and dispatch.
Review and interpret IFC drawings, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, erection drawings, BOQs, MTOs, specifications, and fabrication details.
Ensure fabrication is carried out according to the latest approved drawings, specifications, project requirements, and fabrication procedures.
Develop and maintain appropriate fabrication sequences and production workflows.
Coordinate fabrication of columns, beams, rafters, trusses, bracing, purlins, girts, platforms, staircases, handrails, ladders, pipe racks, canopies, mezzanines, equipment supports, and miscellaneous steel.
Coordinate with the Planning Engineer / Production Planner regarding fabrication schedules, production targets, priorities, and delivery requirements.
Monitor daily and weekly fabrication targets and ensure workshop output meets project schedules.
Track fabrication tonnage, quantities, assemblies, completed components, balance quantities, and dispatch quantities.
Coordinate with production supervisors, foremen, welders, fitters, fabricators, machine operators, painters, riggers, and helpers.
Allocate manpower according to fabrication workload, production priorities, skill requirements, and project deadlines.
Monitor workshop manpower productivity, fabrication rates, man-hours, machine utilization, and production efficiency.
Identify and resolve production bottlenecks, material shortages, drawing issues, equipment breakdowns, manpower constraints, quality issues, and workflow interruptions.
Coordinate with Engineering regarding drawing revisions, technical queries, RFIs, fabrication clarifications, connection details, and design changes.
Ensure fabrication activities are based on the latest approved revision of drawings.
Coordinate with Procurement and Stores to ensure timely availability of steel plates, sections, pipes, bolts, welding consumables, paint, abrasives, and other fabrication materials.
Verify incoming materials against MTO, material specifications, delivery documents, heat numbers, material certificates, and approved material requirements.
Ensure proper material identification, traceability, storage, segregation, and handling.
Monitor material utilization, cutting optimization, nesting, scrap, wastage, and material consumption.
Prepare or review cutting lists, material take-offs, fabrication lists, assembly lists, and material allocation plans.
Coordinate CNC cutting, plasma cutting, oxy-fuel cutting, sawing, drilling, punching, bending, rolling, and other steel processing activities.
Monitor fit-up and assembly to ensure correct dimensions, orientation, connection details, and tolerances.
Coordinate welding activities in accordance with approved WPS, PQR, welding procedures, project specifications, and applicable standards.
Monitor welding sequence, weld preparation, preheating, interpass temperature, welding consumables, and weld quality where applicable.
Coordinate with QA/QC for welding inspection, dimensional inspection, NDT, material inspection, and final fabrication inspection.
Ensure fabrication complies with approved ITP, method statements, inspection procedures, drawings, specifications, and client requirements.
Coordinate VT, UT, MT/MPI, PT/DPI, RT/NDT/NDE inspections where applicable.
Track NCRs, rework, repairs, punch lists, inspection comments, corrective actions, and final approvals.
Coordinate with QA/QC for MIR, WIR, inspection requests, material certificates, weld records, inspection reports, and quality documentation.
Monitor dimensional accuracy, squareness, straightness, alignment, weld size, hole locations, connection dimensions, and fabrication tolerances.
Coordinate surface preparation, shot blasting, grit blasting, painting, coating, galvanizing, touch-up, and final finish inspection.
Ensure fabricated steel is properly marked, tagged, identified, protected, packed, and prepared for transportation.
Coordinate with Logistics regarding loading plans, dispatch priorities, transportation, delivery sequence, and site requirements.
Ensure fabrication and dispatch sequences are aligned with site erection and installation requirements.
Coordinate with Site/Erection Teams regarding fabrication status, delivery priorities, missing components, modifications, and installation requirements.
Prepare and maintain daily fabrication reports, weekly production reports, fabrication trackers, tonnage reports, productivity reports, and progress updates.
Monitor planned versus actual production and communicate delays and recovery requirements.
Assist in preparing recovery plans, production acceleration plans, overtime plans, additional shift plans, and resequencing plans.
Participate in production meetings, coordination meetings, QA/QC meetings, project progress meetings, and management reviews.
Maintain records of fabrication status, production quantities, inspection status, material availability, rework, delays, and dispatch status.
Ensure workshop activities comply with HSE requirements, safe working procedures, lifting procedures, hot work controls, PPE requirements, housekeeping, and workshop safety standards.
AutoCAD – reading and reviewing fabrication and structural drawings.
Microsoft Excel – fabrication trackers, production reports, quantity tracking, material tracking, and dashboards.
Primavera P6 / MS Project – coordination with project and fabrication schedules.
ERP / MRP / Production Management Systems where applicable.
Preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly fabrication reports.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
3–8 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, workshop engineering, fabrication production, or steel manufacturing.
Strong hands-on experience in steel fabrication and workshop operations.
Experience with structural steel, PEB, heavy steel, miscellaneous steel, architectural metalwork, or similar fabrication projects.
Strong ability to read and interpret IFC, shop, fabrication, erection, GA drawings, BOQs, MTOs, and specifications.
Good understanding of fabrication processes, welding, fit-up, cutting, drilling, assembly, blasting, painting, inspection, and dispatch.
Knowledge of WPS, PQR, NDT, ITP, MIR, WIR, NCR, material traceability, and dimensional inspection.
Experience coordinating with Production, Engineering, Planning, Procurement, QA/QC, Stores, Logistics, and Site Teams.
Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Excel, fabrication documentation, and production reporting.
Knowledge of Primavera P6 / MS Project is an advantage.
