Job summary

Boskalis in Abu Dhabi invites a Training Superintendent to strengthen deck crew competence and safety through state-of-the-art simulators, targeted training, and induction programs.

You will be part of the Smit Lamnalco crewing team based in Abu Dhabi, identifying talent, supporting career progression, and improving performance via audits, sea trials, and feedback to raise training standards across the fleet.

Qualifications

• Master’s certificate and train-the-trainer qualification required.
• 4–6 years offshore maritime operations, training or related experience.
• Strong knowledge of STCW, Flag State and Port State legislation.
• Ability to work with Operations, Technical and Crew teams and external partners.
• Commitment to safe and healthy working practices.

Job description

You will make your mark by strengthening the competence, safety, and performance of our deck key crew through our state of the art simulator, targeted training and induction programs, and continuous improvement of development plans. In this role, you will help identify and prepare qualified Masters, Chief Officers, and Chief Engineers for appointment, support career progression of high-potential crew, and use feedback, audits, fleet visits, sea trials, and performance reporting to enhance training effectiveness, operational standards, and compliance across the fleet.

You will work at Boskalis office in Abu Dhabi while managing vessels owned by Smit Lamnalco, part of the Boskalis group. Smit Lamnalco provides tailored marine services to customers around the world, combining expertise, teamwork, and a strong focus on delivering reliable support in every environment.

Your responsibilities as a Training Superintendent

• Lead and conduct simulator assessments for deck key crew to support selection, appointment, and performance improvement.
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve training, assessment, and induction programs in line with SLIMS and operational needs.
• Advice on crew capability, identify high-potential talent, and support promotion and CoC upgrade pathways.
• Monitor and report on vessel and crew performance, using feedback from internal and external stakeholders to strengthen training plans.
• Support operational excellence and compliance through vessel audits, advise internal customers on vessel technology and ship handling, fleet visits, and participation in sea trials.

Your qualities

• You can make your mark as a Training Superintendent if you have:
• Higher professional education, supported by a Master's certificate and a train-the-trainer qualification.
• 4-6 years of relevant off shore experience in maritime operations, training, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of STCW, Flag State and Port State legislation, with solid understanding of vessel operations and marine terminal operations.
• Ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders such as Operations, Technical and Crew, as well as external parties including training centres, agencies, client representatives and crew.
• Strong commitment to safe and healthy working practices, with awareness of job-related risks and the responsibility to elevate unsafe situations appropriately.
