Qualifications

  • Qualifications should meet UAE regulatory requirements and awarding body standards for vocational assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver vocational training sessions and assessment activities.
  • Observe and assess candidates in simulated or workplace settings using approved methods.
  • Review learner portfolios, portfolio of evidence, and assessment records to confirm competence.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and guidance on learner progress.

Job description

An assessor supports and assesses students working towards a vocational qualification within a CERT-approved RTP training center or vocational training environment. It is an assessor’s role to ensure that trainees meet the required occupational competency standards, assessment criteria, and evidence requirements necessary to achieve their qualifications. Many assessor positions involve both teaching and assessing, with responsibility for ensuring valid, fair, reliable, and evidence-based assessment practice.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in any Health Sciences discipline from an accredited academic institution, plus a recognized Assessor Award / Assessor Certificate from an accredited and internationally recognized vocational awarding body or institute; OR
  • Vocational qualification in the required field at the same level or above, plus a recognized Assessor Award / Assessor Certificate from an accredited and internationally recognized vocational awarding body or institute.
  • A current practitioner license in a relevant health services profession is highly desirable and may be required depending on the specialization (e.g. licensed GP, licensed Nurse, licensed Paramedic, licensed Pharmacist, etc.).
  • The assessor qualification must meet the expectations of relevant local regulatory requirements and awarding body standards in the UAE and should be appropriate for personnel carrying out assessment decisions in vocational education and training This may include qualifications may include recognized vocational assessor awards or certificates that prepare the holder to assess occupational competence, practice-based learning, and portfolio evidence in line with internationally accepted principles of assessment.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in teaching, training, assessment, or workplace supervision within a health sciences or vocational education context.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Prior experience in a health services profession.
  • Ability to work individually as well as with peers and in teams.
  • Able to express ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Effective communication skills to communicate effectively with learners, staff, Internal Verifiers (IVs), External Verifiers (EVs), quality assurers, and workplace supervisors.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high standards and the ability to drive continuous improvement.
  • Up-to-date, broad knowledge of the relevant subject area.
  • High organization and documentation skills.
  • High level of IT skills including MS Office.
  • Sound understanding of assessment methodology, principles of assessment, evidence requirements, and assessment documentation.
  • Ability to make consistent assessment decisions against learning outcomes, competency criteria, and occupational standards.
  • Experience in reviewing learner portfolios, workplace evidence, observation records, and assessment tracking documentation is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with standardization, internal verification, and quality assurance expectations in vocational education and training is desirable.
LANGUAGE
  • English language skills equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or above, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
  • Ability to communicate assessment decisions, developmental feedback, and documentation requirements clearly in English is essential.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

An Assessor in health sciences monitors those taking health vocational qualifications, ensuring they possess the skills and knowledge required for the job.

The job role of an assessor may involve the following duties:

  • Planning and delivering vocational training sessions, assessment activities, and learner support workshops as required
  • Observing and assessing candidates in simulated and/or workplace settings using approved assessment methods
  • Interviewing candidates and reviewing their portfolios of evidence to confirm competence against required standards
  • Providing timely, constructive, and developmental feedback and offering guidance on learner progress and evidence requirements
  • Completing and signing off assessment decisions and reports once all qualification requirements and evidence criteria have been satisfactorily met
  • Maintaining accurate, complete, and auditable records of candidates’ progress, assessment decisions, evidence reviews, and action points
  • Attending standardization meetings with Internal Verifiers (IVs), trainers, and quality personnel to ensure consistency and compliance in assessment practice
  • Attending meetings with other assessors and contributing to quality improvement and standardization activities
  • Attending meetings with External Verifiers (EVs), auditors, or awarding body representatives where required, and addressing findings or comments appropriately
  • Working closely with training staff, workplace supervisors, candidates’ line managers, and quality teams to support learner achievement and compliance with program requirements
  • Designing or adapting assessment plans and assessment instruments in line with qualification requirements and approved assessment strategies
  • Ensuring that assessment practice is valid, authentic, current, sufficient, and reliable
  • Monitoring learner progress against assessment plans and taking appropriate follow-up action where progress is delayed
  • Supporting internal quality assurance processes, audit preparation, and evidence availability
  • Ensuring confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance in handling learner records and assessment evidence
  • Contributing to continuous improvement in teaching, assessment, documentation, and learner support practices.
