About the role
Serve as the highest technical authority within the workshop for complex diagnostics, electrical/electronic faults, and hybrid/EV vehicle repairs. Lead resolution of escalated jobs, provide on-the-job mentoring, and act as the liaison with OEM technical hotlines.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical, electronic, mechanical, and software-related faults across multiple brands (ICE, Hybrid, PHEV, and BEV vehicles).
- Perform high-voltage (HV) system diagnostics on hybrid and electric vehicles including HV battery packs, inverters, DC-DC converters, electric motors/generators, regenerative braking, and thermal management systems.
- Strictly follow OEM-specified high-voltage safety procedures: isolation of HV system, use of Category 0/00 insulated PPE, lockout-tagout (LOTO) procedures, and HV-rated insulated tools.
- Operate brand-specific diagnostic equipment such as Toyota Techstream, Nissan Consult, BMW ISTA/ICOM, Mercedes XENTRY/DAS, Ford IDS/FDRS, Hyundai GDS, VAS/ODIS (VW Group), Land Rover Pathfinder/Topix, and aftermarket platforms (Bosch KTS, Launch, Autel MaxiSys).
- Conduct guided fault-finding using wiring diagrams, CAN/LIN/FlexRay/Ethernet network analysis, oscilloscope measurements, and live data interpretation.
- Perform ECU coding, programming, flashing, key/immobiliser programming, and ADAS calibration (cameras, radars, LiDAR) per OEM specifications.
- Lead "Fix-It-Right-First-Time" initiatives by analyzing repeat repair (R/R) cases and implementing root cause corrective actions.
- Open and manage cases with OEM technical assistance centres (TAC) and document findings for future reference.
- Mentor and coach Mid and Junior technicians; conduct in-house technical training sessions and toolbox talks.
- Maintain a comprehensive internal database/library of solved technical cases, TSBs, and known fixes accessible to the workshop team.
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer warranty diagnostic procedures and accurate documentation for warranty claim approvals.
- Support the Service Advisor team by providing technical clarifications during customer interactions when required.
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
- Mandatory: OEM Master Technician or equivalent highest-level certification from at least one major brand (e.g., Toyota Diagnostic Master, BMW Master Technician, Mercedes-Benz Senior Master, ASE Master + L1 Advanced Engine Performance).
- Mandatory: Recognized Hybrid/EV High-Voltage Safety Certification (IMI Level 3/4 EV, NIDA HV Safety, IRATA, OEM HV certification, or equivalent).
- Minimum 8-12 years total automotive technician experience, with at least 3-5 years specifically in advanced diagnostics.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience working on hybrid and/or electric vehicles (Toyota/Lexus HSD, Honda i-MMD, BMW i, Mercedes EQ, Hyundai-Kia Hybrid/EV, Tesla, Nissan e-Power/Leaf, etc.).
- Experience in a multi-brand workshop environment is strongly preferred.
