Role Context

The Teacher – Design and Food Technology will plan and deliver high-quality lessons that develop students’ creativity, practical capability, technical understanding, food preparation knowledge, design thinking, and independent learning skills. The role requires effective curriculum planning, differentiated instruction, assessment, classroom management, and pastoral support. The teacher will use performance data and assessment evidence to improve progress while contributing to the wider academic, extracurricular, and mentoring responsibilities of the school.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver outstanding Design Technology and Food Technology lessons in line with the school’s Teaching and Learning Policy.
Create a purposeful classroom environment that supports engagement, challenge, creativity, and safe practical learning.
Establish clear teaching objectives and measurable learning outcomes for every lesson.
Set appropriate academic targets based on students’ prior attainment and individual learning needs.
Identify students with special educational needs, People of Determination requirements, English as an Additional Language needs, and gifted and talented profiles.
Differentiate teaching strategies, resources, practical activities, and assessments to support students across the ability range.
Develop well‑structured lesson plans and learning activities that maintain pace, challenge, and student participation.
Teach practical food preparation, nutrition, product development, design processes, technical skills, and safe workshop or kitchen practices.
Use assessment for learning techniques to check understanding and adjust instruction.
Analyze performance data and key indicators to plan targeted interventions and differentiated lessons.
Use digital technology and appropriate educational applications to enhance teaching, assessment, and student progress.
Maintain high standards of behavior, punctuality, participation, homework, and quality of work.
Apply the school’s Behaviour for Learning Policy consistently and fairly.
Evaluate how effectively lesson objectives have been achieved and use findings to improve teaching practice.
Mark student work at least once every two weeks in accordance with the school’s Marking Policy.
Provide constructive feedback and set clear targets that help students improve.
Assess and record student progress systematically using approved school systems and procedures.
Complete internal and external assessments required by examination bodies, departments, and school leadership.
Prepare accurate and informative reports for parents and guardians.
Attend parent meetings, student conferences, information evenings, and other school events.
Contribute to curriculum development by producing, reviewing, and updating schemes of work and subject plans.
Ensure curriculum content aligns with IB, IGCSE, school, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Maintain current subject knowledge through professional reading, training, collaboration, and continuing professional development.
Contribute to the school’s Creativity, Activity, and Service programme by leading or supporting one after‑school activity each term.
Serve as an Academic Mentor for students in Years 12 and 13 when assigned.
Support students as an Extended Essay Supervisor where appropriate.
Participate in the staff duty rota and contribute to the safe and orderly operation of the school.
Provide lesson cover for absent colleagues when required.
Invigilate examinations and support the Examinations Officer during internal and summer examination periods.
Work collaboratively with subject colleagues, coordinators, school leaders, learning support staff, and pastoral teams.
Support school improvement initiatives aimed at strengthening instructional quality and student achievement.
Fulfil other reasonable duties assigned by the Principal.

Ideal Profile

Bachelor’s Degree in Design Technology, Food Technology, Home Economics, Nutrition, Education, or a closely related subject.
PGCE or another recognized teaching qualification.
Demonstrated record as a very good or outstanding teacher.
Proven success teaching students across a broad ability range.
Previous experience working in more than one international school.
Practical experience teaching IB and IGCSE programmes.
Strong knowledge of curriculum planning, assessment, differentiation, and examination requirements.
Understanding of UAE Ministry of Education and ADEK regulations.
Alignment with the school’s vision and the International Baccalaureate philosophy and mission.
Strong subject knowledge in Design Technology, Food Technology, nutrition, practical food preparation, and product development.
Ability to manage practical learning environments safely and efficiently.
