Overview
Tailor – Uniform and Garment Services is a full‑time position located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The role is part of the hospitality sector’s sewing and tailoring function and requires 5 to 8 years of professional tailoring experience. The tailor supports the Uniform Room for over 6,000 colleagues, handling fittings, alterations, repairs, and bespoke requests for both staff and guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct uniform fittings for colleagues across different departments and body shapes.
- Take precise body measurements and recommend appropriate garment sizes and alterations.
- Adjust uniforms to improve fit, comfort, movement, and professional appearance.
- Complete hemming, resizing, tapering, shortening, lengthening, and general garment repairs.
- Construct or alter men’s and women’s suits when required.
- Handle tailoring requests from resort guests, including VIP service requirements.
- Maintain discretion, professionalism, and courtesy during guest fittings.
- Support the creation, alteration, and review of new uniform samples.
- Assist with pattern development and sample‑room activities when needed.
- Review uniform size specifications and recommend fit adjustments that meet operational requirements.
- Inspect completed garments for stitching quality, symmetry, measurements, finish, and durability.
- Ensure uniforms remain in good condition and are available for daily distribution.
- Prioritize urgent alterations according to operational and departmental needs.
- Repair damaged seams, buttons, zippers, waistbands, pockets, collars, cuffs, and linings.
- Mend hems on bed sheets, pillowcases, tablecloths, napkins, and table linen when repair is practical.
- Operate sewing machines, overlock machines, pressing equipment, and hand tools safely.
- Maintain sewing machines and report technical faults or maintenance requirements.
- Organize alteration requests, completed garments, fabrics, threads, accessories, and tailoring supplies.
- Coordinate with Uniform Room colleagues regarding fittings, collection schedules, and garment availability.
- Minimize fabric and material waste through careful cutting and accurate alteration work.
- Follow workplace safety, hygiene, quality, and equipment-handling procedures.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and efficient tailoring workspace.
- Support uniform renewal projects and brand presentation updates across Atlantis Dubai.
- Complete other reasonable garment, uniform, or linen duties assigned by management.
Ideal Profile
- Minimum 5 to 8 years of professional tailoring experience.
- Previous work in a hotel, garment factory, uniform department, tailoring shop, or sample room is preferred.
- Strong practical ability in garment fitting and alteration for different body shapes.
- Experience in men’s and women’s suiting.
- Knowledge of pattern making and garment construction is advantageous.
- Confident using industrial sewing machines, overlock machines, irons, and tailoring tools.
- Skilled in measuring, cutting, stitching, resizing, repairing, and finishing garments.
- Able to maintain accuracy while completing a high volume of requests.
- Strong attention to garment fit, appearance, construction, and finishing details.
- Capable of working efficiently in a fast‑paced resort environment.
- Friendly and professional when assisting colleagues and VIP guests.
- Able to communicate clearly in English.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a cooperative team attitude.
- Organized, reliable, and able to manage changing priorities.
- Physically capable of standing for extended periods and handling garments and equipment.
