The Tailor supports smooth housekeeping and linen operations by ensuring uniforms, guest garments, room linen, curtains, and food and beverage linen remain serviceable and professionally presented. Accurate repairs reduce replacement costs, extend the usable life of hotel textiles, and help maintain presentation standards across guest-facing and employee areas. The position also supports uniform issuance and maintains organised tailoring records for efficient daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Mend and alter hotel uniforms, room linen, food and beverage linen, curtains, and other textile items according to required quality standards.
• Repair guest clothing when requested and ensure completed garments are returned within the agreed service time.
• Attend immediately to simple guest laundry repairs such as replacing buttons, repairing seams, and correcting minor tears.
• Inspect linen and uniforms before laundry processing to identify missing buttons, damaged seams, or areas requiring repair.
• Operate sewing machines safely and maintain equipment in clean and serviceable condition.
• Maintain sufficient stocks of thread, buttons, needles, fabric, repair materials, and other tailoring supplies.
• Keep the tailoring workspace, uniform room, equipment, shelves, and storage areas clean and systematically organised.
• Support the linen room by issuing appropriate uniforms to employees against authorised requests received from Human Resources.
• Explain uniform exchange procedures to new employees when issuing their initial uniform allocation.
• File uniform request forms accurately according to department and established recordkeeping procedures.
• Ensure replacement requests for lost uniforms are supported by the required Human Resources documentation and loss or damage reporting process.
• Report misuse or repeated damage of employee uniforms to the Linen and Uniform Room Supervisor.
• Separate damaged linen, uniforms, and curtains that can be repaired from items that should be condemned or removed from service.
• Notify the supervisor promptly of defective sewing machines, furniture, storage fixtures, or other equipment requiring attention.
• Maintain clear shift handover communication so outstanding repairs, uniform requests, and operational information are transferred accurately.
• Assist with additional housekeeping, linen room, tailoring, or special project duties when assigned by the supervisor.
• Provide courteous assistance when handling guest garments and respond professionally to service requirements.

Ideal Profile

• Relevant tailoring, sewing, or craft certificates supported by service certificates or recommendation letters demonstrating professional skills.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a comparable tailoring position, preferably within a 4-5 star hotel.
• Proven ability to mend, alter, stitch, and finish different types of garments and hotel textiles.
• Skilled in replacing buttons, repairing seams, correcting tears, and carrying out practical garment alterations.
• Comfortable working with uniforms, guest laundry, room linen, restaurant linen, and curtains.
• Good understanding of sewing machine operation, cleaning, and basic equipment care.
• Ability to inspect textile damage and determine whether an item should be repaired or removed from service.
