The Specialist Neurosurgeon provides advanced clinical and operative care for patients presenting with neurological conditions that require surgical assessment or intervention. The position covers both cranial and spinal pathology, ranging from degenerative disorders and tumors to traumatic injuries, hemorrhage and emergency neurological conditions. The role requires precise diagnostic interpretation, sound surgical judgment and coordinated treatment planning with neurology, intensive care, orthopedics, oncology, rehabilitation and radiology teams. Effective management before and after surgery is equally important to achieving safe outcomes and supporting long-term neurological recovery.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess patients presenting with suspected or confirmed neurosurgical disorders across outpatient, inpatient and emergency settings.


• Diagnose conditions involving the brain, spinal cord, spine and peripheral nervous system.


• Perform elective neurosurgical procedures within approved specialist privileges.


• Provide urgent operative intervention for emergency neurological and spinal conditions when clinically indicated.


• Manage patients diagnosed with primary or secondary brain tumors.


• Evaluate and treat traumatic brain injuries using appropriate surgical and non-surgical strategies.


• Provide specialist management for spinal trauma and associated neurological complications.


• Diagnose and treat degenerative spinal disorders and symptomatic disc disease.


• Manage hydrocephalus and determine appropriate surgical intervention where required.


• Evaluate intracranial hemorrhage and provide timely treatment according to clinical severity.


• Participate in management of cerebrovascular disorders requiring neurosurgical assessment.


• Assess and treat peripheral nerve conditions falling within specialist neurosurgery practice.


• Interpret CT imaging as part of neurological and trauma assessment.


• Review MRI studies to support diagnosis, surgical planning and postoperative evaluation.


• Evaluate angiography findings when managing vascular neurosurgical conditions.


• Interpret relevant neurophysiological investigations in conjunction with clinical findings.


• Develop individualized treatment plans according to diagnosis, surgical indications and patient condition.


• Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments and explain proposed procedures, benefits and risks.


• Provide structured postoperative care and monitor neurological recovery following surgery.


• Identify complications promptly and coordinate further intervention when necessary.


• Participate in emergency and trauma call rotations according to departmental requirements.


• Collaborate with neurologists and intensivists on complex neurological cases.


• Coordinate spinal cases with orthopedic surgeons and rehabilitation specialists when multidisciplinary management is required.


• Work with oncologists and radiologists in the assessment and treatment of neuro‑oncology patients.


• Maintain accurate, complete and timely medical records.

Ideal Profile

The position requires an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution followed by accredited specialist training in Neurosurgery. Candidates should have at least three years of post-specialization experience working as a Specialist Neurosurgeon within a reputable hospital or advanced surgical environment. Demonstrated clinical expertise in both cranial and spinal neurosurgery is required. The successful specialist should be comfortable evaluating complex neurological presentations, interpreting advanced diagnostic imaging and determining when surgical intervention is appropriate. Western education or clinical experience gained in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or an equivalent healthcare system is preferred. Candidates should hold or be eligible to obtain the professional specialist license required by the relevant healthcare authority in the United Arab Emirates.
