Job Overview

Senior neurosurgical consultant delivering advanced cranial surgical care within a major hospital setting. The role involves managing complex neurological conditions requiring precise diagnosis, operative planning, and coordinated post‑operative care. It carries a leadership component in surgical decision‑making, multidisciplinary case review, clinical governance, service development, and continuous improvement of neurosurgical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage cranial neurosurgical conditions including brain tumors, traumatic brain injuries, vascular lesions, hydrocephalus, skull‑base disorders, and other complex intracranial pathologies.
  • Perform advanced cranial neurosurgical procedures using microsurgical, minimally invasive, image‑guided, and evidence‑based operative techniques.
  • Lead pre‑operative assessment, surgical risk evaluation, treatment planning, intra‑operative decision‑making, and post‑operative care coordination.
  • Collaborate with neurology, ICU, oncology, radiology, anesthesia, rehabilitation, nursing, and allied health teams to support safe patient outcomes.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions, tumor boards, complex surgical reviews, and high‑acuity care planning.
  • Utilize advanced neurosurgical technologies such as neuronavigation, intra‑operative imaging, neuro‑monitoring, and precision surgical planning tools where available.
  • Ensure adherence to international standards for clinical quality, patient safety, infection control, documentation, and patient experience.
  • Contribute to neurosurgery service development, protocol improvement, clinical governance, morbidity and mortality reviews, and outcome monitoring.
  • Provide expert input for emergency neurosurgical cases, complex referrals, and high‑risk cranial surgical decisions.
  • Mentor junior doctors, residents, fellows, and allied health staff in cranial neurosurgery care pathways, surgical planning, and clinical decision‑making.
  • Support research, audits, innovation, continuous professional development, and evidence‑based improvements in neurosurgical practice.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, operative notes, consent documentation, treatment plans, and follow‑up reports in line with hospital standards.
Ideal Profile
  • Board Certification, CCT, FRCS in Neurosurgery, or equivalent recognized specialist qualification.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of post‑specialty training experience with strong expertise in cranial neurosurgery.
  • Proven track record in complex cranial procedures and management of high‑acuity neurosurgical cases.
  • Experience in a tertiary care hospital, academic medical centre, or advanced neuroscience programme is preferred.
  • Strong expertise in neuro‑oncology, skull‑base surgery, neuro‑vascular surgery, or minimally invasive cranial techniques will be an advantage.
