Consultant Neurosurgeon – Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Hospital and Health Care – Full-time – 8‑10 years post‑specialisation experience. Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage neurosurgical conditions, including brain tumours, spinal disorders, traumatic brain injuries, cerebrovascular diseases, hydrocephalus, epilepsy‑related surgical cases and peripheral nerve disorders.
- Conduct detailed patient assessments using neurological examination, clinical history, symptom progression, imaging findings, laboratory results and risk evaluation.
- Interpret MRI, CT scans, angiography, neuro‑physiological studies and other diagnostic investigations to support accurate diagnosis and surgical planning.
- Perform complex neurosurgical procedures involving the brain, spine, skull base, spinal cord, cerebrovascular system and peripheral nerves.
- Manage emergency neurosurgical cases such as traumatic brain injuries, intracranial haemorrhage, spinal cord injury, raised intracranial pressure, acute neurological deterioration and urgent operative presentations.
- Develop individualized treatment plans that may include surgical intervention, non‑surgical management, medication coordination, rehabilitation referral and long‑term follow‑up.
- Provide pre‑operative consultation, risk discussion, surgical planning, informed consent and clear explanation of expected recovery pathways.
- Deliver post‑operative care, complication monitoring, wound assessment, neurological status review and ICU‑based follow‑up after major neurosurgical procedures.
- Collaborate with neurologists, orthopaedic surgeons, intensivists, radiologists, anaesthesiologists, rehabilitation physicians, nurses, physiotherapists and allied health teams.
- Supervise patients in intensive care and high‑dependency settings following cranial, spinal, vascular or complex emergency neurosurgery.
- Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment options, operative risks, expected outcomes, rehabilitation needs and preventive care.
- Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, imaging reviews, consent documentation, progress records, discharge plans and follow‑up instructions in line with DHA regulations and hospital policies.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, tumour boards, morbidity and mortality reviews, quality improvement initiatives, audits, research activity and continuing medical education.
- Mentor junior physicians, residents, operating room teams and allied health professionals where required.
- Uphold infection control standards, surgical safety protocols, ethical medical practice, patient confidentiality and evidence‑based neurosurgical care.
Ideal Profile
- Medical Degree such as MBBS or equivalent from a recognised institution.
- Completion of a recognised Residency in Neurosurgery.
- Board Certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Neurosurgery.
- DHA Eligibility Letter, valid DHA Licence or eligibility for Consultant licensure in Dubai.
- Minimum 8‑10 years of post‑specialisation experience as a Consultant Neurosurgeon.
- Extensive experience performing complex cranial, spinal, skull base, cerebrovascular and peripheral nerve procedures.
- Strong background in managing emergency neurosurgical cases, ICU‑based neurosurgical recovery and high‑risk surgical patients.
- Fellowship training in Spine Surgery, Skull Base Surgery, Neuro‑Oncology, Functional Neurosurgery, Paediatric Neurosurgery or Cerebrovascular Surgery is an advantage.
- Previous experience in tertiary care hospitals or internationally accredited healthcare institutions is highly preferred.
- Advanced microsurgical and minimally invasive neurosurgical skills.
- Strong clinical judgement, surgical decision‑making ability, leadership capability and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
- Excellent communication, patient counselling, documentation and time‑management skills.
- Commitment to ethical practice, patient‑centred care, continuous professional development and high standards of clinical governance.
