The Specialist Neonatologist provides continuous medical care for newborn infants who require routine monitoring, specialist assessment, or intensive treatment immediately after birth. The role is particularly important for premature babies and critically ill neonates whose respiratory, cardiovascular, metabolic, infectious, or congenital conditions require rapid clinical intervention and close observation. Working within the NICU and newborn nursery, the specialist coordinates care with obstetricians, pediatricians, neonatal nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.

Effective Arabic and English communication is essential when supporting parents through complex diagnoses, intensive treatment, and follow-up planning during a highly sensitive stage of care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist medical care for premature, term, and high-risk newborn infants.
• Assess neonates immediately after delivery when specialist evaluation is required.
• Manage critically ill newborns admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
• Provide medical oversight for appropriate patients within the newborn nursery.
• Diagnose and treat common and complex neonatal medical conditions.

• Assess respiratory distress in newborns and initiate appropriate treatment.
• Manage neonatal respiratory disorders according to evidence-based protocols.
• Evaluate newborns with suspected congenital abnormalities.

• Identify signs of sepsis and initiate timely investigation and treatment.
• Manage neonatal metabolic and electrolyte abnormalities.

• Stabilize high-risk newborns after delivery.
• Support airway, breathing, and circulation during neonatal emergencies.

Ideal Profile

The position requires an MBBS or equivalent medical qualification from a recognized institution together with specialist training relevant to Neonatology or Pediatrics. Candidates should hold a recognized specialist qualification in Neonatology, Pediatrics with neonatal expertise, or an equivalent approved credential. A minimum of 3-5 years of post-specialization experience in Neonatology is required. The successful physician should demonstrate substantial experience within a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and confidence managing premature and critically ill newborns. Strong competence in neonatal resuscitation, stabilization, respiratory distress management, infection treatment, and emergency neonatal care is essential. Experience managing congenital disorders and complex neonatal medical conditions is highly desirable. Fluent spoken and written Arabic and English are essential for communication with families and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
