Role Context The Consultant Neonatologist provides advanced medical care for newborns requiring intensive monitoring, life support and complex treatment during the earliest and most vulnerable stage of life. The role covers premature infants, critically ill neonates, high-risk deliveries and newborns affected by respiratory, infectious, congenital and metabolic conditions. The consultant has a major influence on survival, stabilization and long-term neonatal outcomes by combining rapid clinical decision-making with advanced procedures and coordinated multidisciplinary care. The position also supports NICU quality standards, staff development, clinical governance and continuous improvement of neonatal services.
The position requires an MBBS or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution together with Board Certification in Pediatrics. Candidates must also hold Fellowship or recognized Subspecialty Certification in Neonatology or Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. A minimum of five years of experience practicing at Consultant Neonatologist level in a Level III or Level IV NICU is required. The successful physician should demonstrate extensive experience in advanced neonatal resuscitation, airway management, ventilator support and invasive neonatal procedures. Strong clinical judgment is essential when managing premature infants, critically ill newborns, congenital abnormalities, neonatal sepsis, metabolic disease and complications of prematurity. Experience within tertiary-care hospitals or high-volume neonatal intensive care services is highly desirable. Western Board Certification such as UK CCT, American Board, Canadian Fellowship, Australian Fellowship or an equivalent qualification would provide a strong advantage. Certification in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program or an equivalent recognized neonatal resuscitation course is preferred. Academic involvement, teaching experience and participation in neonatal research would further strengthen suitability for the position. Candidates should meet the professional licensing or eligibility requirements applicable to consultant neonatology practice in the United Arab Emirates.
