Role Context

The Specialist NICU physician will provide focused clinical care for premature and critically ill neonates requiring close observation, respiratory support, emergency stabilization, and coordinated neonatal treatment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and manage premature, critically ill, and high-risk newborns admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
  • Diagnose neonatal conditions requiring specialized medical treatment and close monitoring.
  • Provide immediate stabilization for newborns experiencing respiratory, circulatory, metabolic, or other acute clinical deterioration.
  • Perform neonatal resuscitation during delivery-room or NICU emergencies.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans according to gestational age, clinical condition, diagnostic findings, and response to therapy.
  • Monitor vital signs, oxygenation, feeding tolerance, growth, laboratory results, and other indicators of neonatal progress.
  • Coordinate neonatal management with obstetricians, pediatricians, neonatologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other clinical professionals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to daily neonatal care decisions.
  • Identify early signs of complications and escal… care promptly when required.
  • Support management of premature infants requiring prolonged neonatal monitoring and follow-up.
  • Communicate clinical progress, treatment options, and expected outcomes clearly to parents and caregivers.
  • Provide counseling and education regarding neonatal care, feeding, developmental follow-up, and discharge planning.
  • Communicate fluently in Arabic and English with families requiring bilingual clinical support.
  • Maintain accurate consultation notes, treatment plans, progress records, and discharge documentation.
  • Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and neonatal care protocols throughout clinical practice.
  • Participate in clinical governance, case reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and departmental audits.
  • Contribute to continuing medical education and professional development activities.
  • Support coordinated follow-up planning for infants requiring ongoing pediatric or specialist care after NICU discharge.
Ideal Profile
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Recognized Specialist qualification in Neonatology, Pediatrics, or an appropriate related specialty.
  • Appropriate UAE Specialist License or eligibility to obtain the required professional license.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of post-specialization experience working in a NICU environment.
  • Strong clinical experience managing premature and critically ill newborns.
  • Demonstrated competence in neonatal resuscitation and emergency stabilization.
  • Good understanding of neonatal monitoring, treatment planning, and multidisciplinary care.
  • Ability to recognize clinical deterioration and respond promptly to neonatal emergencies.
  • Strong communication and counseling skills when working with parents and families.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English is essential.
