Job summary

Julphar is seeking an EHS Specialist to develop and maintain environmental, health, and safety programs ensuring GMP and regulatory compliance across manufacturing operations. The role focuses on biosafety, chemical safety, waste management, and incident investigations.

You will lead risk assessments, develop CAPA, deliver training, and monitor EHS KPIs while collaborating with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and R&D teams to integrate EHS across projects.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with local and international EHS regulations and standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments (JSA, HIRA, HAZOP) for processes and labs.
  • Develop CAPA plans and lead incident investigations with root cause analysis.
  • Deliver EHS training and promote a culture of safety across sites.
  • Monitor environmental permits, emissions, waste and KPIs (TRIR/LTIR).
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, QA and R&D on EHS integration.

Job Description

The EHS Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with pharmaceutical industry regulations, company policies, and applicable local, national, and international standards. The role requires strong knowledge of EHS best practices in a regulated manufacturing environment, with focus on GMP, biosafety, chemical safety, and occupational health.

Core Competency
  • Compliance & Regulatory Adherence Ensure compliance with EHS regulations (local authority requirements, OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, etc.) and pharmaceutical industry standards. Monitor, interpret, and implement new EHS regulations relevant to pharmaceutical operations. Support audits and inspections by regulatory agencies and certification bodies.
  • Risk Management & Safety Programs Conduct risk assessments (JSA, HIRA, HAZOP) for pharmaceutical processes, laboratory operations, and utilities. Develop and implement chemical safety, biosafety, and hazardous waste management programs. Support safe handling of potent compounds, solvents, flammable chemicals, and controlled substances. Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis (RCA), and develop corrective & preventive actions (CAPA). Training & Awareness - - Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors (e.g., GMP safety, laboratory safety, spill response, PPE use, emergency drills). Promote EHS culture and awareness through campaigns, toolbox talks, and safety council.
  • Monitoring & Reporting Conduct routine inspections, internal audits, and workplace monitoring (air quality, noise, ergonomics, etc.). Maintain EHS records, permits, licenses, and compliance documentation. Track and report EHS KPIs (e.g., TRIR, LTIR, near misses, waste disposal metrics).
  • Emergency Preparedness & Response Develop and maintain emergency response plans (fire safety, chemical spills, biological incidents, natural disasters). Coordinate with site emergency response teams and external agencies. Conduct drills and evaluate effectiveness of emergency preparedness.
  • Environmental Sustainability Manage waste segregation, treatment, and disposal as per pharma regulations. Support energy conservation, water management, and sustainability initiatives. Ensure compliance with environmental permits and emission standards.
  • Cross-Functional Support Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and R&D teams to ensure EHS integration in operations. Support new projects, facility expansions, and equipment installations from an EHS perspective. Review change control proposals for EHS risks
Qualification/Functional Knowledge
Education

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field. Master’s degree or professional diploma/certifications (NEBOSH, CSP, CIH, ASP, ISO Lead Auditor) preferred.

Experience

3 - 5 years of EHS experience in pharmaceutical or life sciences industry. In-depth knowledge of GMP, laboratory biosafety, chemical safety, hazardous waste management, industrial hygiene, and risk management tools.

  • Strong understanding of EHS regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and training delivery skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to perform RCA & CAPA Proficiency in MS Office, EHS software, and data reporting
Preferred Qualifications

Strong training and communication skills to conduct workshops and safety awareness programs. Working knowledge of electronic quality management systems (eQMS)
