Role Context

The Control Room Operator maintains continuous oversight of production facilities and well operations, using process information, alarms, operating trends, and field communication to keep facilities within approved operating limits. The position requires timely intervention whenever pressure, flow, temperature, production, injection, equipment, or protection-system conditions deviate from normal parameters. In addition to Control Centre responsibilities, the role coordinates operational and maintenance activities involving wellheads, flow lines, transfer lines, surface facilities, mobile equipment, and well handovers. Effective execution directly supports production availability, hydrocarbon accounting, plant safety, equipment reliability, and rapid recovery following process disturbances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and control continuous plant operations from the Control Centre.
  • Track operating conditions across oil, gas, utility, water injection, and associated production systems.
  • Maintain process parameters within established operating limits and approved procedures.
  • Identify causes of production restrictions and recommend operational improvements supporting oil, gas, and water injection targets.
  • Monitor process alarms, trends, equipment status, and operating abnormalities.
  • Take prompt corrective action when process alarms, equipment problems, or plant upsets occur.
  • Coordinate with field personnel when operating parameters change or abnormal conditions develop.
  • Maintain clear communication between Control Centre and field Production personnel.
  • Coordinate daily production information covering the quantity and quality of produced oil and gas.
  • Support accurate hydrocarbon accounting through timely exchange and verification of operational production data.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance plans for surface facilities.
  • Support wellhead preventive maintenance including cleaning and servicing of X-mass trees, Surface Safety Valves, choke valves, and isolation valves.
  • Coordinate flow line maintenance activities affecting field production.
  • Support planning and execution of transfer line pigging activities.
  • Coordinate track maintenance required to maintain field accessibility and operational support.
  • Monitor surface casing repair activities and associated operational interfaces.
  • Coordinate handover and acceptance of wells between Production and Drilling teams.
  • Track mobile equipment deployed at field locations and maintain utilization records.
  • Monitor fire and gas panels and respond appropriately to system alarms.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance personnel to rectify failures affecting plant protection systems.
  • Initiate maintenance work requests when equipment or instrumentation failures are identified.
  • Coordinate maintenance requirements with field operators and the Duty Operations Engineer.
  • Follow up active work permits and verify operational requirements throughout maintenance intervention.
  • Safely remove equipment and instruments from service before authorized maintenance.
  • Verify readiness and return equipment or instruments to service following completed maintenance.
  • Apply approved isolation and operational control requirements when equipment is unavailable.
  • Respond to emergencies in accordance with established emergency procedures and contingency plans.
  • Initiate partial or complete plant shutdown when required to protect personnel, equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintain communication with relevant operational teams throughout emergency response activities.
  • Restore affected facilities to normal operating conditions safely and systematically after stabilization.
  • Coordinate turnaround activities and sequential plant shutdown and start-up requirements.
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day plant and well operation problems and support practical corrective solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve plant availability and operational efficiency.
  • Comply with approved operating policies, systems, standards, procedures, and instructions.
  • Provide on-the-job training supporting Competency Based Training and UAE Nationalization programs.
  • Contribute practical improvement ideas for operating procedures and functional processes.
  • Perform all assigned duties in accordance with HSE requirements, regulations, and ADNOC Codes of Practice.
  • Report HSE non-conformances, incidents, and near misses through approved reporting channels, including SAP where required.
  • Stop and report activities considered unsafe or inconsistent with approved HSE requirements.
  • Carry out assigned emergency responsibilities in accordance with the facility emergency organization.
  • Maintain Control Centre and operational work areas to established housekeeping and hygiene standards.
  • Provide operational information for section progress reports.
  • Prepare KPI checklists and operational performance information required by management.
Ideal Profile

The successful candidate should hold a Technical Diploma in a relevant discipline or a Secondary School Certificate supported by an appropriate vocational trade certificate. Candidates should have 2-3 years of relevant operating experience, preferably within the oil and gas industry. Practical understanding of oil and gas production processes, Control Centre operations, process parameters, alarms, well operations, utilities, water injection, equipment isolation, work permits, and plant start-up and shutdown activities will be important. The position requires the ability to recognize abnormal operating conditions quickly and make safe decisions under established procedures. Candidates should also be comfortable coordinating with field operators, maintenance teams, drilling personnel, and operations engineers. Experience with wellhead equipment, X-mass trees, Surface Safety Valves, choke and isolation valves, flow lines, transfer line pigging, fire and gas systems, and hydrocarbon production monitoring will be valuable.
