Job summary

AECOM is seeking a skilled Materials Inspector for roads and bridges in Dubai. The role blends field inspection with laboratory testing to ensure materials meet project requirements, codes, and quality standards.

You will work with Resident Engineer, contractors, and laboratories to document tests, samples, and inspections on major infrastructure works. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of relevant experience in laboratory materials testing and field inspection, with strong QA/QC expertise

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in a relevant technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant materials testing and field inspection experience.
  • Experience on roads, bridges, and major infrastructure projects preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review applicable codes, project specifications, contract documents, approved drawings, and quality requirements before inspecting materials or construction activities.
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor works to verify compliance with approved project standards.
  • Conduct field inspections of construction materials delivered to and used on site.
  • Review laboratory material testing activities and confirm testing is carried out according to applicable procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of material samples, tests, results, inspections, and completed works.
  • Verify that materials incorporated into roads, bridges, utilities, and structural works comply with approved specifications.
  • Inspect workmanship and construction activities for conformity with contract documents and contractor-submitted plans.
  • Monitor contractor QA/QC procedures and identify deviations requiring corrective action.
  • Carry out site supervision and inspection activities when instructed by the Resident Engineer or Assistant Resident Engineer.
  • Maintain records of contractor manpower, equipment, and daily site resources where required.
  • Follow up with contractors regarding resources, material availability, equipment requirements, safety, and inspection readiness.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports covering materials deliveries, work activities, inspections, testing, and outstanding concerns.
  • Implement and follow up on site instructions issued by the RE or ARE.
  • Apply project quality-control procedures consistently across inspection activities.
  • Conduct measurements and survey checks where requested to verify pipe alignments, levels, or associated infrastructure works.
  • Coordinate with the client Project Manager during joint inspections in the presence of the RE or ARE.
  • Assist the project engineering team with correspondence relating to material quality, site conditions, testing, and contractual requirements.
  • Identify material or workmanship problems early and work with the RE or ARE to determine appropriate corrective action.
  • Monitor start-up, testing, commissioning, and handover activities associated with inspected works.
  • Maintain records of project milestones and relevant completion information.
  • Audit construction activities for conformity with approved documents, specifications, and contractor plans.
  • Inspect waterproofing systems applied to structural elements and verify installation quality.
  • Check expansion joints for correct materials, workmanship, alignment, and installation.
  • Inspect protective coatings applied to concrete, steel, or other structural elements.
  • Monitor formwork stripping and verify that resulting surfaces comply with required quality standards.
  • Inspect concrete surface finishing and repair works for acceptable workmanship and approved repair methodology.
  • Participate in inspections of precast structural components.
  • Verify handling, lifting, storage, and installation procedures for precast elements.
  • Inspect cast-in-situ structural works and confirm that construction procedures meet approved requirements.
  • Monitor interfaces between structures, roads, utilities, and adjoining infrastructure to identify coordination conflicts.
  • Verify equipment settings, alignment, testing, and energization requirements where these affect inspected works.
  • Maintain awareness of project health and safety requirements during all site and laboratory inspection activities.
